2) The shortlived Atlanta based grind outfit Charmer unleashes sheer visceral madness. Trimming down to merely a vocalist, guitarist, and drummer, their sole release has been a self-titled 7" (of which only 150 were pressed and all were sold on Charmer's most recent tour). Due to the damage caused by their furious live shows, the members have done a helluva job keeping their identities more or less a secret, having been known to perform adorned in gas masks and under many different aliases.
Since the band's break-up, guitarist "Emmerson Longfellow" and vocalist "Pelham Winchester" began writing under the guies of End Life (http://myspace.com/endfuckinglife).
Wolf Fang Fist
Charmer Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I feel less like myself with every month
I've convinced myself
That I'll never fall in love
And I don't really wanna die
So why do I think about it all the time?
Of course I waited
Hanging by a thread
From my flannel laying by your bed
Forget what I said
And we'll never talk again
And I don't really wanna die
So why do I think about it all the time?
I'm fine
And summer faded
Of course I waited
The lyrics to Charmer's song Wolf Fang Fist explore themes of self-doubt, fear of intimacy, and suicidal ideation. The opening lines "Am I good enough? / I feel less like myself with every month" reveal the songwriter's internal struggle with insecurity and a sense of diminishing self-worth. The next line "I've convinced myself / That I'll never fall in love" indicates a fear of intimacy and the belief that they are unworthy of another's affection.
The chorus "And I don't really wanna die / So why do I think about it all the time?" is a poignant and relatable reflection on depression and suicidal thoughts. It conveys the paradoxical nature of mental illness, where an individual may desire to live but feel overwhelmed by persistent negative thoughts. The subsequent lines "And summer faded / Of course I waited" suggest a sense of stagnation and missed opportunities, perhaps due to the songwriter's struggles with mental health.
The final lines "Hanging by a thread / From my flannel laying by your bed / Forget what I said / And we'll never talk again" convey a deep sense of regret and the desire to escape from one's past actions and mistakes. The song's introspective and vulnerable lyrics are paired with a dynamic instrumental track that includes distorted guitar riffs and punchy drum beats.
