”This was one of those tracks I wanted to do for such a long time, but it took me forever to workout how to make it happen. Firstly I needed to get the Clannad people onboard and reassure them that I wasn’t going to mangle the epic ‘Theme From Harrys Game’ from which ‘Saltwater’ was derived. The secondly I wanted Moya Brennen from Clannad to come and sing some new toplines and front the track.
Thankfully it all came together. The Video was also memorable, we shot in several locations, Gatecrasher’s venue in Sheffield, a big glass marine tank in a studio in London and last but not least on Woolacombe beach near Devon” (Nicholas Bracegirdle, 2008)

The lyrics to Chicane's song "Saltwater" convey a sense of longing, release and the presence of the sea within the human experience. The words "Oscail mo shuile, Nios mo eist e sin, Ar an tsaile snamha" translate to "Open my eyes, listen more, on the swimming sea." The repetition of "Fol lol the doh fol the day" adds a rhythmic quality to the song, while the mention of saltwater rain evokes a sense of cleansing and renewal.
The phrase "Open my eyes in that way" expresses the desire for clarity and the need to perceive the world in a new way. The words "Missing part in that way" might suggest the missing pieces in one's life, which could be filled by the experiences of the sea. The line "You listen open my eyes" implies that an external source may be necessary to change one's perspective, and the mention of "no more inside" suggests a personal release of emotion or limitations.
Overall, the song speaks to the transformative power of nature and the need for open-mindedness to fully experience it.

I was 63 yesterday, lived through the finest musical decades, 60's,
70's, 80's and 90's. Thanks to John Peel I started to get into house
and trance in the mid 90's and on new years eve1999 I went to meet a
mate of mine to get some acid.. He couldn't get any but asked me if I'd
be interested in a pill instead. After Old Lang Syne I was walking
home and happened to be walking past a nightclub and could hear the beat
through the walls so I went inside. It was the start of 3 years of
pills and being the first on the dance floor and the last off ant this
amazing track was part of that journey. To say I feel privileged is an
understatement...

Thought I'd comment on it too. How about every time you get a like or comment you listen to this banger! I always think of Eyeball Paul 😅 SAH OR CHICANE??...Errr ....sashhh? Ha, these blaggers are pants!! And on that note, I do like both tbf. My all time without a doubt favourite trance anthem is Follow Me by Lange. Love it.
