Chiddy Bang formed when Anamege and Beresin met at Drexel University in 2008. After months of support from underground music blogs, the pair released their debut mixtape The Swelly Express via blog Pretty Much Amazing. The release was met with widespread acclaim and led to the group signing a recording contract with EMI in January 2010.
Their first commercial single on the label taken from their The Swelly Express mixtape, Opposite of Adults, samples the Brooklyn group MGMT's 'Kids' and was released on February 21, 2010 in the UK. It reached number 12 on the UK Singles Chart and later peaked at 90 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US. A second single from the mixtape titled Truth was released in the UK and peaked at number 50. Following this success, Chiddy Bang released a second mixtape exclusively within the UK featuring remixes and adaptations of popular British artists including tinie tempah, ellie goulding and kate nash.
In October 2010 the pair released Chiddy Bang: The Preview - an EP consisting of previous singles and new material - serving as a prelude to their debut album scheduled for release in Spring 2011.

And how the saying go, things change
Skinny dude, but the flow is the size of Ving Rhames
Pennies from my thoughts add up, I hope you bring change
I know these haters ain't want me to see my wings raise
Flowin' shoes polishin', rappers I demolish it
I done lost my mind, they needed a psychologist
They could care less back when I was still in colleges
It's tough tryin' to end up on the paid route
The flow is medium rare, now bring a steak out
This is my medium, here, see how it plays out
They all buggin' me, I gotta pull a Raid out
Using it sparingly, forever will they cherish me
Before I black out, introduce my moment of clarity
I'm not the same, style change
But I can leave the game
Now I'm right back to my old ways
I take life so slow, every minute gotta go
Now I'm right back to my old ways
We only here for a little
So I'm somewhere in the middle
And I'm right back to my old ways
I'm not the same, style change
But I can leave the game
Now I'm right back to my old ways
Let's take them back to days when we had no radio plays
And we had to change up our ways, cause success brings
Difference, tryin' to keep it clean
While they litterin', snakes in the grass, they try to slither in
The rose that grew from concrete, not witherin'
And it's life so fast, the lights keep flickerin'
What goes around comes back, and that's the karma truth
I log onto my closet, that shit is Karmaloop
So I get a little fresh
My teachers used to hate me, but now I could pass the test
Got confidence, subconsciousness
Makes me overlook all of my many accomplishments
But, see I get it like nobody else did
I found a deeper meaning, know what sense of self is
And I'm a die of old age
And stay true I reverted back to my old ways
I'm not the same, style change
But I can leave the game
Now I'm right back to my old ways
I take life so slow, every minute gotta go
Now I'm right back to my old ways
We only here for a little
So I'm somewhere in the middle
And I'm right back to my old ways
I'm not the same, style change
But I can leave the game
Now I'm right back to my old ways
In the song Old Ways by Chiddy Bang, the rapper reflects on his personal growth and change in style, while simultaneously recognizing the importance of remaining true to oneself. He acknowledges that success can bring about a shift in mentality and behavior, and that it's easy to get lost in the chaos of it all. He references his beginnings as a college student and how he once was seen as insignificant in the music scene. However, the chorus repeats throughout and emphasizes that despite all of this, he always finds his way back to his "old ways." This could be interpreted in two ways -- either that he returns to his original sound or that he reverts back to the person he once was, before fame and success.
The verse also touches on how it's challenging to navigate the music industry without losing focus on one's own goals and vision. The line "The rose that grew from concrete, not witherin'" refers to Tupac Shakur's poem of the same name, and could be interpreted as Chiddy Bang's reminder that even in an environment that is not conducive to growth, he will continue to thrive. Additionally, the line "My teachers used to hate me, but now I could pass the test" suggests that even though he may not have fit into certain molds of success, he has found his own way and is succeeding nonetheless.
Overall, the song Old Ways is an introspective piece that delves into Chiddy Bang's journey as an artist and a person. It acknowledges the changes that come with success and growth, while emphasizing the importance of staying true to oneself and the "old ways" of thinking and creating.
