They consider their formation to have taken place in the online virtual world Second Life as they "explore the possibilities of music in virtual environments." The duo consists of vocalist/art director juliet Heberle and pianist/composer arabesque Choche.
arabesque (real name: Michal Horák) is the producer of Chouchou's music and was born in 1979 in Tokyo to a Czech father (Jan Horák) and a Japanese mother. His father was a professor at Musashino Academia Musicae Tokyo, therefore he is a classically trained pianist who started playing at the age of three. After arabesque graduated, he traveled to Austria to devote himself to the study of the piano. He has won a number of awards in classical piano, held solo recitals, and performed in chamber and full orchestra concerts. He started composing and producing music when he was in high school and after going through many experiences, he found a new style of expressing himself artistically by starting Chouchou. He is also part of music duo Orcaorca, along with guitarist and multi-instrumentalist maya Kawadias.
juliet was born in Japan and raised in Tokyo. As a teenager, she traveled to the United States by herself in the late 90s and graduated with a BFA in fashion design from one of the world's best art universities in New York. While she was gaining experience working in the New York fashion industry after her graduation, her talent as a singer was discovered by arabesque. Together, they started Chouchou to search for new possibilities in the collaboration of music and art. She also directs the visual concept of the project, including album artwork, web design, and the design of their virtual presentations.
It is a general misconception that juliet and arabesque met through Second Life, in fact, they know each other since high school. However, they got engaged in early 2016 and married at the end of the year. She gave birth to their daughter in late March 2018 and to their son in 2020.

I'm told they used to hold concerts in SL, but that was before I found them. They still have a presence there. The sim (in case you don't know, that is the term for a large section of land in SL) is up and apparently stable. You can go there and meet other fans of the group, but most go there just to listen to their music, which is streamed in. Chouchou is still present in SL, but not as active as they once were. I hope they soon remember us and return.

They still actually hold a lot of concerts. One of my favorites I found just by clicking a random place on the map, and they have daily performances. I do which Chouchou had a huge concert, I'm considering getting into SL music myself.
