Captured

Upon the timberline
You said these mountains were your invention
And so was this heart of mine
I heard you whisper on the water,
There on the mighty sea
You spoke of love deep as the ocean
When You spoke of Your love for me
I am loved by the Father
I am loved by the Son
It is love that has captured
The heart of this wayward one
I heard your laughter in the sunrise,
Amidst the morning birds
A song of freedom for all creation
And you sang me every word
I heard you singing in the silence,
A simple melody
Words of love, O I can hear it
My Father is very fond of me
Chris Tomlin’s "Captured" is a beautiful worship song that speaks to the love and affection God has for his children. The song portrays a heartening image of God’s love and how He is always present in our everyday lives. In the first verse, the song alludes to the beauty of nature and how God’s presence can be felt in every aspect of it. It talks about how nature is a creation of God, just like the human heart, and everything that exists bears testimony to His glory.
In the chorus, we are reminded of the redemptive love of God. Despite our waywardness, His love has captured our hearts and made us his own. The song’s message is simple but powerful, that we are loved not only by the Father but also by the Son. It presents a message of hope and redemption that when we embrace God’s love, we can truly live a life of freedom and purpose.
The second verse of the song continues the theme of nature and how God’s presence can be found in the beauty of it. The song depicts how the sunrise and the morning birds symbolize a new beginning, and how we can hear God’s voice even in the silence of nature. It further emphasizes how God’s love is simple and can be found in the small things in life.
Overall, the song is an ode to God’s love and how it surrounds us every day. It portrays a picture of freedom, redemption, and purpose which can only be found in the embrace of God’s love.
