I think all the albums are great in their own way. There's no "old Coldplay" or "new Coldplay". It's just that they need to try new sounds to grow as a band.

Parachutes was an amazing debut album, it's what you can listen to on a rainy day and just relax.

A Rush of Blood to the Head is, in the opinion of many, an extremely strong rock album, it's a strong statement and there are very few flaws.

X & Y is either loved or hated. They were thinking big, but some of the songs just kind of fade together. With that said, it does deliver several strong tracks like: Talk, Fix You and Till Kingdom Come.

Viva la Vida, in my opinion, is one of the greatest, most forward thinking albums ever created. After X & Y received extremely mixed reviews, the band went back to the drawing board and decided to create something completely new. No ground was left uncovered and no stone was left unturned. While they tried a bunch of different sounds, it doesn't seem all over the place. All the tracks come together to form a sense of completeness, creating one of the most satisfying albums of all time.

Mylo Xyloto, like X & Y, received extremely mixed reviews. The creative juices of Viva la Vida continued to flow, but they tried to do two completely different things: experiment with a new sound and please the masses. The final result wasn't bad, but lots of the catchy, sometimes electric sounds, could have been better if there were less cliche lyrics. Even though they produced a couple mega-hit-singles, it was not their best work.

Ghost Stories is set to be released in May and is expected to contain sounds similar to AROBTTH.

No imagination needed. I remember I was a junior in high school. I knew once I heard the first 1:10 minutes of this song that this was my favorite band of all time.

I had listening to the beatles, Pink Floyd, Nirvana you name it.

I had been playing piano since 8 and Violin since 10. I’m 38 now and still to this day Coldplay is my favorite band of all time.

Yeah view wise you are right, Politik has more than Twisted Logic, and so is probably more well known even outside of YouTube as it was track 1 off AROBTTH, unlike Twisted Logic, which was the 12th track of X&Y. So having said, recognition wise, Twisted Logic is more underrated, but as you said, objectively Politik is the best, and imo the best piece of music ever created. Only song that I would currently give a 10/10. I think there’s a reason that it’s 5.0 stars on letssingit.

Update: Now I actually think that An Airplane Carried Me to Bed by Sky Sailing is the best album. It has a lot more lyrical and creative depth to it than this album, but AROBTTH is definitely still top 5 no doubt.

And make no mistake, Politik is still the best song of all time.

I couldn’t agree more! If there’s one thing Coldplay know how to do right, it’s always starting of an album with the right song that sets the tone right away, such as Don’t Panic with Parachutes, perfect start to a brilliant melancholy album. Then this breathtaking beauty of course, with A Rush of Blood To The Head, perfect start to an absolute masterpiece! (my fav btw) but then on to Square One with X&Y, another perfect start that sets the tone of a great album which has been overlooked a lot, but I think it’s still awesome. Then on we go to Life In Technicolor with Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends, despite it being just an instrumental this time, it’s still the perfect start to a switch in style and sound based album, which makes it more exciting now we are hearing these new interesting types of sounds and ambience, but anyways you get what I’m saying, I could go on but I don’t wanna write a huge paragraph that you probably won’t get round to reading anyway, just wanted to make the point haha, have a great day fellow Coldplayers!

A true fan will always appreciate all their work even if some of it doesn’t resonate to them as much. For me personally, I really like Ode To Deodorant, and it wasn’t even released onto anything except a cassette tape with Brothers & Sisters back at the time, but now it’s pretty much non existent, (it was their first song btw) but the point is, most of Coldplay’s best material is largely unknown.

I was pretty much the same when it came to Coldplay music: I only stuck with the old albums and refused to listen to Ghost Stories after hearing A Sky Full of Stars on the radio and hating it. Only until recently did I try to give other Ghost Stories songs a chance. After hearing Ink and watching the music video for True Love, I realized that Coldplay may have changed the style of their music, but it wasn't necessarily bad. True Love was pretty hard-hitting and Ink had the same soothing calmness that many old Coldplay songs had. It was a little hard to get used to, but once I got accustomed to their new style, I enjoyed it :)

One of the most powerful album openers of all time. A Rush of Blood to the Head will go down in history as one of the greatest albums of all time. I don't think the later music they made is fake. Yes, I love old Coldplay over the new, but I think it's unfair of you to say this. They evolved and it's obvious they were very influenced by their rising fame, but I could never say that Coldplay stopped giving heart into their songs. @J p b Dude I never said it did. I was just saying that Ghost stories is more reminiscent of Parachutes than any of their other albums. Your confusing reminiscent with sounding like. Objectively, sure Ghost Stories is nothing like Parachutes, but a lot of the foundational layers and acoustic patterns relate the most to Parachutes. I would never deem to compare them both though. Music is subjective, but in my opinion Parachutes is a million times better, but I don’t think Ghost Stories is bad tbh, it’s just different.

I think that X & Y was the last album that I truly loved by Coldplay. I like later ones, and I think that Ghost stories definitely has some good stuff. But - Parachutes, Blue Room LP, Rush of Blood to the Head, and X&Y solidify them as one of my favorite bands.

I love this song because it's the perfect mesh of Muse and Coldplay. You can definitely hear the Muse influence in the first half of the song, with the powerful piano part that Matt helped put together and the vocals.The second half of the song is the true, beautiful, classic Coldplay sound. The transition from the darker tone to the happier one is amazing. (I think this song is like the Coldplay version of Citizen Erased, anyone else agree?)

Honestly, I’ve listened to a lot of Muse songs, and I never noticed this song sounding anything like Muse per se, but I know Matt helped put this masterpiece together though, but what makes Coldplay so superior imo is that they have their own great melancholic sound that doesn’t imitate other band sounds.

During a really really bad point in my life I over-listened to A Rush of Blood to the Heat, so when I was all better I never even wanted to hear a second of any song from the album as it'd put me back in the horrible thought.. 2 years later, holy shit, it's really nice to hear Politik again.

Yes, I agree music is subjective. If you can’t relate to the message of the song then you aren’t going to be able to resonate with it as much, and obviously everyone is different, although a lot of people are starting to become more and more the same these days now.

Anyways, if you look on letssingit, the music equivalent of IMBD, you’ll see that Politik is the highest rated song. That is an objective stat that isn’t subjective because it’s a mathematical fact.
