Tava indo pra São Paulo
Pegando um trem
Fui parar na Califórnia
No Maranhão
Vi um boi todo enfeitado
Rio de Janeiro
Cidade Maravilhosa
Sonhei, sonhei
Com um vestido amarelado
Todo de seda e bordado
Noite clara que é de lua
Que é pra fazer
Brincadeira de reisado
Ah! Meu benzinho
Vou me embora pra Satuba
Letra enviada por Cely Sousa
The lyrics to Comadre Fulozinha's song Satuba describe a journey and dreams of the singer. The first verse mentions traveling to São Paulo on a train, but somehow ending up in California, which could be a metaphor for being lost or feeling disoriented. The second line, "No Maranhão, vi um boi todo enfeitado," refers to the state of Maranhão in Brazil, where there is a well-known festival called Bumba-Meu-Boi, in which people dress up as oxen and create elaborate costumes. This could be a reference to the rich cultural traditions of Brazil that the singer has encountered on her journey. The third line, "Rio de Janeiro, Cidade Maravilhosa," is a direct reference to Rio de Janeiro, a city known for its natural beauty and vibrant culture.
The second verse talks about the singer's dreams, specifically about a yellow dress made of silk and embroidered fabric, which could represent luxury and abundance. The reference to a clear night with a full moon suggests a time of heightened emotions and possibilities. The line "brincadeira de reisado" refers to a traditional Brazilian dance that celebrates the birth of Jesus, which could suggest a spiritual or religious dimension to the singer's aspirations. The final line, "Ah! Meu benzinho, vou me embora pra Satuba," could be interpreted as a farewell to a loved one before setting off on a journey to Satuba, a small town in Alagoas, Brazil. This could suggest a search for a place of belonging and connection amidst the vastness of the world.
