Converge have enjoyed a relatively high level of recognition. According to AllMusic, they are "regarded as one of the most original and innovative bands to emerge from the punk underground." Their popularity rose with the release of Jane Doe, which was ranked as the best album of 2001 by Terrorizer and later as the 61st Best Metal Album of All Time by Rolling Stone. Subsequently, Converge moved from Equal Vision Records to the considerably larger label Epitaph Records and their records gradually became more elaborate and expensive to produce. Special releases have traditionally been handled by Deathwish Inc., established by Bannon in 1999. The band's ninth studio album, The Dusk in Us, was released in November 2017 through Deathwish and Epitaph.
Hope Street
Converge Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Keep on running
Suicide eyes
Just keep hunting
For new hearts
To break
For old wounds
No one will break your fall
Keep on moving
Keep on hiding
In ripe new lives
You are destroying
Finding comfort
In their wreckage
You kill new hope
With old pain
No one will break your fall
The lyrics to Converge's song "Hope Street" seem to convey the message of someone who is struggling with their life and continuously searching for something but is unable to find it. The first verse talks about the person moving endlessly and not stopping, even when they have "suicide eyes." This could be interpreted as they are pushing themselves to their limits and struggling with mental health issues.
The second verse suggests that the person is looking for new relationships that they can break and old wounds that they can reopen. This could be read as someone who is self-destructive and unable to move on from their past. The lines "finding comfort in their wreckage" and "you kill new hope with old pain" might suggest that hurting others is the only way the person can maintain some sense of control in their life.
Overall, the lyrics paint a picture of someone who is stuck in a cycle of self-destructive behavior, unable to break free from the past but also unable to find any sort of solace or peace in the present.
