Converge have enjoyed a relatively high level of recognition. According to AllMusic, they are "regarded as one of the most original and innovative bands to emerge from the punk underground." Their popularity rose with the release of Jane Doe, which was ranked as the best album of 2001 by Terrorizer and later as the 61st Best Metal Album of All Time by Rolling Stone. Subsequently, Converge moved from Equal Vision Records to the considerably larger label Epitaph Records and their records gradually became more elaborate and expensive to produce. Special releases have traditionally been handled by Deathwish Inc., established by Bannon in 1999. The band's ninth studio album, The Dusk in Us, was released in November 2017 through Deathwish and Epitaph.

Raised her since three
He was a hope to be gutter king
Both unraveled at their seams
That were never sewn
She never had a choice
They never had a chance
They never had a chance
All their devils and all their demons
Walk with me as they walked with them
All their devils and all their demons
Haunting me as they haunted them
Giving out
Giving in
The lyrics of Converge's song "Drop Out" touch upon themes of drug abuse, broken homes, and missed opportunities. The opening lines, "Amphetamine, raised her since three," suggest that the character being described has grown up in an environment heavily influenced by drug addiction. The following lines, "He was a hope to be gutter king / Both unraveled at their seams," imply that the character's father figure had ambitions of being a powerful figure in a societal underclass but was ultimately unable to achieve his goals.
The lines, "That were never sewn / She never had a choice / They never had a chance / He never had a choice / They never had a chance," suggest that the character's life has been marred by a lack of agency and opportunity. These themes are further emphasized in the chorus, which asserts that the character is haunted by the mistakes of their parents and the choices that they were unable to make.
Overall, the lyrics of "Drop Out" paint a bleak picture of a life affected by addiction, poverty, and a lack of opportunity. The song's heavy instrumentation and abrasive vocals complement the lyrics' harrowing themes, making for a powerful listening experience.

Nate Newton’s backup vocals don’t get enough credit. 1.35 when he screams giving out, giving in really brings up the intensity during the tapping riff

I love this remastering. I honestly never considered the possibility of a better mix, but everything sounds much clearer now. Especially Koller on the bongos - holy crapoli
