Amazingly simple design that eliminates the tail rotor of a conventional helicopter by using two counter rotating rotors to neutralize each others reactional torques. They say that the roll and pitch were controlled by the pilot just leaning from one side to the other or from front to back. But, how did he control the yaw of his aircraft; that is, how did he make it turn to the left or right? I see something on that rear pontoon that must be helping to accomplish that, but I cannot make it out from the film. Maybe it had control surfaces projecting from it that somehow laterally deflected the downwash from the back portion of the two counter rotating rotor blades to provide thrust to yaw the aircraft? I assume that however that rear pontoon's mechanism works, it's controlled by twisting the motorcycle handlebars toward the direction the pilot wants to steer the aircraft. With a center of gravity below the center of lift, this design acts like a pendulum which makes it impossible for it to flip upside down even if the pilot leans as far as he can to one side of the platform he stands on.

Anyway, it's very impressive considering that it does not require a miniature jet engine like the WASP II which cannot land on water! I wonder what this "supercopter's" maximum range was?

Probably not. If he changes the pitch of the rotor blades on one side of the craft, it would make it slide laterally either left or right but that would not yaw the craft or make it rotate around an axis so it pointed in a new direction. That would also add additional mechanical complexity to the design. His simple tail pontoon deflector surfaces probably work very nicely to yaw his craft which does not require much torque.

If they started manufacturing these now, they would probably be big sellers. I can imagine people flying around in them to do local shopping. One problem is those large rotor blades. I'd put a large diameter, but lightweight guard ring around the four pontoons to prevent the rotor blades from hitting anything during takeoffs and landings.

Its very nice. The fan can be covered with mesh cage like a table fan. so that it can rotate as usual. He will be safe even he fall on that and even he can walk on that and no problem for flight.

Putting all the safety aspects to side He had the right idea..it was actually a helicopter upside down when you look at it , at least they had something to work on , then along came some one who put the engine above and added a tail rotor with pitch control rotor and the helicopter was born. Just remember we used the square wheel for a damn long time before swapping it for a round one 🤣🥲

Whilst innovative, I believe that this didn't develop further due to their being no practical application for it and no commercial market.

There's also no autorotation capability, therefore only fly as high as you're prepared to fall from if the two stroke outboard motor quits.

That apart, it is quite a clever device, one which I would certainly try.
