Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Cornershop's song "We're In Yr Corner" are a combination of English and Punjabi words and phrases. The repetitive lines "Mar mar o'sharle(h)" and "Ekuh. O'shart mar mar" are not directly translatable, but they create a rhythmic and melodic pattern. The line "Raja Rani, Ek kahani, Shorti o'shari mar" can be understood as "King Queen, a story, shorti loves to die." "Shorti" possibly refers to a lover or a character in the story.

The lyrics also mention various cultural references and wordplay. "Hasda Punjav" refers to a happy person from Punjab, a region in India known for its vibrant culture. "Mortey mortey mataey, mitti mitti lagardi" can be interpreted as "dying, dying, my mother, covered in dirt." This could symbolize the struggles and hardships faced by the singer.

The line "Hemi dervaja, Jhere ehse ameed nu band dar-sak-da(h), That this truth can shut out" suggests that the truth can be shut out or suppressed by closed doors. It reflects on the power dynamics and the ability to control information and narratives.

Overall, the lyrics of "We're In Yr Corner" contain a mix of Punjabi and English phrases, cultural references, and abstract imagery. The song's meaning may be open to interpretation, but it explores themes of love, struggle, and the dynamics of power.

Saw them in SF opening for Oasis and Noel Gallagher came out and played bass on this. Easily the best song of the night.

Jesper Nørgaard Larsen

Saw Cornershop back in 97 in Copenhagen as support act for Tindersticks. The live version of this song was THE highlight of the entire concert. The album version doesn't quite reach the same level. That earthquake bass does wonders and then played in an extended version. Gosh that's subliminal!

When my daughter was little I'd play this song in the car, and she'd yell when it ended to start it again. Over and over. We still both love it to this day. <3 Great song, guys. I have no idea what any of it means, but fantastic!

Hew Grebe

tia nelson That is so funny. Good album, though.

Fritz Keppler
