Cri-Cri is known as the "grillito cantor" or "the singing cricket". He is a character created by Francisco Gabilondo Soler in his childhood and may even be considered "his inner personality"
The character became so famous and gave its author such renown, that it became a second name for Gabilondo. In the mid part of the 20th century he became the most recognizable singer of children's songs in Spanish. Gabilondo's dedication to this segment of the population has been greatly admired, comparable to Walt Disney in his honest approach to making life fun for those who are getting started in life.

The song "La Muñeca Fea" by Cri-Cri tells the story of a sad and forgotten toy doll. The doll hides in corners, afraid of being seen, and speaks to mice, who are her only friends. Her arm is broken, her face is covered in soot, and she cries sawdust tears due to feeling neglected. One mouse comforts her by telling her that they are her true friends, unlike the people who abandoned her in a corner. They may not be glamorous, but they love her and care for her. The mouse lists off the unlikely friends she has, like the broom, the plumber, and the old cloth, saying they all love her and wish for her happiness.
The song touches on the theme of friendship and how it doesn't matter where you come from or what you look like - true friends will see you for who you are and love you unconditionally. The song also highlights the emotions of neglected toys and how they too have feelings that are just as valid as humans. It encourages children to understand that all toys should be treated with love and care, no matter how they look.
