Dark Corners & Mountain Tops
Cut Copy Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
End the night, keeps from seeing you
Now you take your time to make things shine
Warm and gold, but remind me to say to you
Without you, I wouldn't get far
Whatever you do, hope you remember
Without you, I wouldn't get far
Hey sun when the morning comes
End the night, keeps from seeing you
Now you take your time to make things shine
Warm and gold, but remind me to say to you
Without you, I wouldn't get far
Whatever you do, hope you remember
Without you, I wouldn't get far
Oh, love you best
Without you, I wouldn't get far
Whatever you do, hope you remember
Without you, I wouldn't get far
Oh, love you best
The opening lines to Cut Copy's song "Dark Corners & Mountain Tops," "Hey sun when the morning comes, End the night, keeps from seeing you," are a direct reference to the power and beauty of the sun. The sun has the power to end the night and bring forth the morning light. The mention of "Dark Corners & Mountain Tops" implies that the singer is somewhere secluded, somewhere where the sun can't reach, somewhere dark and foreboding.
The second verse reiterates the importance of the sun: "Now you take your time to make things shine, Warm and gold, but remind me to say to you." The sun is personified as a being who takes time to make things shine, almost as if it has a purpose. The chorus reinforces the idea that the sun is essential to the singer's well-being: "Without you, I wouldn't get far, Whatever you do, hope you remember, Without you, I wouldn't get far, Oh, love you best."
The song's reiteration of how important the sun is highlights the role it plays in the world around us. The sun brings life, growth, and warmth to all living things. The singer seems to be reminding the sun of its significance in his life and how it's essential to him. The lyrics are a beautiful ode to the sun, acknowledging its power and influence. The repetition of the phrases "Without you, I wouldn't get far," and "Oh, love you best" represents the singer's deep admiration for the sun and how much he values it.
