Jurado's solo career began during the mid-1990s, releasing lo-fi folk based recordings on his own cassette-only label, Casa Recordings, beginning in 1995.
Jurado often makes use of found-sound and field-recording techniques, and has experimented with different forms of tape recordings. In 2000 he released Postcards and Audio Letters, a collection of found audio letters and fragments that he had found from sources such as thrift store tape players and answering machines. Also released in 2000 was Ghost of David,, Jurado's bleakest and most personal sounding record to date. I Break Chairs, (2002) was produced by long time friend, David Bazan. It was his last album for Sub Pop, and was a much rockier, electric affair. After signing for the Indiana-based label Secretly Canadian, Damien Jurado reverted to his trademark folk ballad-based style, releasing six more albums: Where Shall You Take Me? (2003), On My Way To Absence (2005), And Now That I'm In Your Shadow (2006), Caught in the Trees (2008), Saint Bartlett (2010) and Maraqopa (2012).

PERCY FAITH
Damien Jurado Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I'm in dire need of curing this headache
There are riots in the streets and
We're still not on the moon
And I hear that you've been
Taken from the airwaves
Joseph Raymond Conniff, I am writing from Seattle
And having just arrived I am staying by the airport
It was tough to find a room at the Hyatt Inn
Alice in disguises
Bill Close taken hostage
"Dear Loretta, these are my demands"
I'll be selling Arizona to the next potential buyer
Who comes in from the north in search of sand
Mr. Allan Sherman, I am writing from the future
Where the people never look you in the eye
And there is no need to talk, and the
Sidewalks they walk for you
I know everything and yet no one at all
Damien Jurado’s “Percy Faith” is a song full of mystery as it talks about a number of characters facing difficult situations in their respective times. The song opens with the singer asking Percy Faith whether his masterpiece is complete. It is likely that Percy Faith, an American music arranger, composer, and conductor, represents a symbol of perfection here. It is unclear what masterpiece the singer is referring to, but it can be interpreted as a larger question on whether anything in the world can ever be complete or satisfactory. The singer seems anxious and seeks a cure for a headache. This can be seen as an indication of the general chaos prevalent in the world, with riots on the streets, and humanity's failure to reach the moon.
The song then goes on to depict a range of bewildering situations. In one instance, Joseph Raymond Conniff, a band leader from Pittsburgh, is seen writing a letter from Seattle where it has started raining so much that it can be trademarked. In another instance, Alice disguises herself and Bill Close has been taken hostage. The song later seems to travel through time, and the singer writes to Allan Sherman from the future. He reveals that even though he has information about everything, people in the future do not need to communicate or engage in meaningful conversations. The song, thus, seems to be pointing towards the challenges of trying to understand and find meaning in a seemingly absurd world.
