Jurado's solo career began during the mid-1990s, releasing lo-fi folk based recordings on his own cassette-only label, Casa Recordings, beginning in 1995.
Jurado often makes use of found-sound and field-recording techniques, and has experimented with different forms of tape recordings. In 2000 he released Postcards and Audio Letters, a collection of found audio letters and fragments that he had found from sources such as thrift store tape players and answering machines. Also released in 2000 was Ghost of David,, Jurado's bleakest and most personal sounding record to date. I Break Chairs, (2002) was produced by long time friend, David Bazan. It was his last album for Sub Pop, and was a much rockier, electric affair. After signing for the Indiana-based label Secretly Canadian, Damien Jurado reverted to his trademark folk ballad-based style, releasing six more albums: Where Shall You Take Me? (2003), On My Way To Absence (2005), And Now That I'm In Your Shadow (2006), Caught in the Trees (2008), Saint Bartlett (2010) and Maraqopa (2012).

Treasures of Gold
Damien Jurado Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And showed up at your door
Says, "I'm here to take good care of you
And your children four."
He stayed with you all day and night
And took you as his wife
He showered you with gifts of gold
I've got treasures of gold
And then one day the soldiers came
And said there was a war
He grabbed his gun and turned to kiss
The family he adored
The woman said her last goodbye
While falling to the floor
She took all his photographs
And hung them on the door
I've got treasures of gold
The lyrics of Damien Jurado's song Treasures of Gold depict the story of a woman who at some point in time is visited by a man from nearby town who offers to take care of her and her children. The man becomes her husband, showering her with gifts of gold as he loves her with his whole being. However, one day the soldiers come knocking and inform the man of a war they wish he would participate in. In his love and loyalty to his family, he grabs his gun and turns to kiss them, saying his farewell. The woman falls to the floor, heartbroken, taking all of his photographs and placing them on the door. The song ends with the man's voice saying he has treasures of gold.
The song Treasures of Gold is a profound depiction of love and loyalty, with the lyrics vividly painting the story and emotions of the characters. The story is presented in a simplistic manner with limited information, thus requiring the listener to fill in the gaps with their imagination, making it all the more impactful. The song evokes a strong sense of emotion from the listener, primarily because of the evocative lyrics and the soulful melody.
