But when you start playing «Vektlaus» it’s soon evident that Kvammen is an artist who enjoys having a knife to his throat. With the help of famous musicians and his producer Even Ormestad, the man from Geilo has carved out an astoundingly vital album that bubbles with melodies, big emotions and a reckless delight in conveying music.
The sound is a lot more synth-driven and modern than on the debut album, but thematically, Kvammen’s lyrics on «Vektlaus» are centered around the eternal topic. Love, and specifically the loss of it, permeates the nine songs that constitute the record. With a commendable openness, the different stages of a breakup is portrayed, and our thoughts go to classic breakup albums like Springsteen’s «Tunnel Of Love» and Dylan’s «Blood On The Tracks».
But there’s light even in the deepest darkness, and in the album’s epic final song, «Det beste ventar fortsatt», Daniel rises from the ashes and the chaos, and establishes that:
Universet det er stort
Og me er så små me to
Men har du tenkt på kor befriande det er at det er uendeleg
Og av alt ditt auge ser
Så er lyset det sterkaste som er
Fremad i alle retninga
Daniel Kvammen Lyrics

Eg reiser for godt i dag
Berre nitten år
Eg akselerera over Åresettsletta
Lei av heile bygde
Rånerar og rasistar
Og alt slags anna hat
Treffe folk som er fri
Kanskje finne ei som er mi
Hugsar Linn og Benedicte
Hugsar dei som er utan namn
Legg alt det der bak meg no
Ser Geilotoppen bli til ei rand
Hadde lovd dei at
Eg skulle bli noko stort
Må holde ord
For eg må gjennom vekselspunktet
Om det så blir det siste eg gjer
Og eg må gløyme deg
Men lille Geilo eg elskar deg
Kanskje mest av alt
Korleis vinden bles over fjorden
Korleis folk alltid er beint fram
Og der kor verden reiser seg
Og himmelen slår rot
Der finn eg ro
For ein dag kjem eg tilbake
Og da ska du vera ny
Og skal vera fri
The overall theme of the song "Fremad i alle retninga" by Daniel Kvammen is about leaving behind the negative atmosphere of his hometown and seeking new experiences and personal growth. He describes a feeling of being stuck in a small town riddled with bigotry and hate but has finally found the strength to move forward towards a brighter future. The first few lines of the lyrics depict his departure as he drives past the sports field, leaving behind everything he has ever known. He reflects on his youth and how he is only nineteen years old, but determined to seek his destiny elsewhere.
The chorus talks about his desire to connect with people who are free-spirited and to possibly find someone special along the way. He reminisces about the people he has met in the past, both those known by name and those who remain anonymous. The lyric "Hadde lovd dei at eg skulle bli noko stort, må holde ord" means that he promised those people that he would become someone significant, and he must keep that promise.
The second verse reveals that he has left his love behind, and although he must move forward, he still loves his small hometown, Geilo. He acknowledges the overwhelming beauty of the place and the honest character of its people. He realizes that he will inevitably return someday, and that Geilo will be a different place by then, but he still loves it all the same.
