The Great Physician
Deas Vail Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Hello, I have come from the fallen.
With colors running down
Through the outlines.
I've closed my eyes to see
What is hidden.
But now I play the fool
For the last time.
Take all of my pain,
Or is it just a premonition?
I can feel it take my breath away.
How can it be that we're saved
Just to live with such shame?
It's all in my head.

So follow
And hope will be there if you listen.
Take your place
Under the hands of the Great Physician.
The Great Physician.

Move on--
Just move on.
Well, I wish it were that easy.
I let it go and take it back again.
The stones that fall out of my hands
Only prove my mistake.

Follow
And hope will be there if you listen.
So take your place
Under the hands of the Great Physician.
Blinded,
Pride is a permanent color.
So we're moving on
To grow from the stones of a surface lover.
We're going under!

Hello, I have come from the fallen...

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Deas Vail's song, The Great Physician, talk about the struggle to come to terms with the shame and pain that accompanies life. The singer recognizes his own imperfections and failings, and pleads with a higher power to take away his pain. He questions whether his suffering is a premonition of something worse to come, and feels like a fool for not being able to see what is hidden. Despite this, he urges the listener to have hope and follow the Great Physician, who can heal and restore them.

The second verse discusses the difficulty of moving on from one's mistakes. The singer wishes it were easy to let go of the pain and shame but finds himself unable to do so. He acknowledges his own errors and the stones falling out of his hands as proof of his mistakes. However, he urges the listener to keep following and listening, placing themselves under the hands of the Great Physician. He identifies pride as a permanent color that blinds people and stops them from growing, and says that they must move on and grow from the stones of a surface lover.

Overall, the lyrics of The Great Physician are a plea for healing and restoration, acknowledging the pain and shame that come with life but encouraging the listener to hold onto hope and keep following the path of growth and healing.

It's interesting to see that the instruments represent the emotion along with the singer
The first part ( hello, i have come, from thw fallen) he speaks in a way pc redenption, trying to explain for god that he will try to become better.
In the last part, after saying the things he wanted to say, he comes speaking in a way of shame, like he is with a bowed head, whit the piano with a slow tone, representing all the scenario that the music want to pass
