In 1996, Breakfast at Tiffany's, which referenced the classic Audrey Hepburn film of the same name, reached the top five in the U.S. and number one in the United Kingdom.
There was conjecture that the band took so much time off between Home and Deep Blue Something in order to fight US centered copyright issues related to their initial album, 11th Song, which they believed to be of lower quality than their name deserved. The 7 year hiatus between albums is believed to be partially responsible for their failure to succeed in the US with their self-titled release.
The band returned in 2015 to release new music for the first time since 2001. This EP was titled Locust House.
John Kirtland is now running a successful independent record label called Kirtland Records. Based out of Dallas, Texas and Los Angeles, California, Kirtland's shrewd business dealings led to his ownership of the back-catalog of superstar band, Bush and royalty rights on the sales of certain albums by No Doubt. After selling off his rights to the No Doubt material, Bush remains on the Kirtland label along with successful indies like Bril and the Burden Brothers.

Deep Blue Something Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I will follow
Although it's not the way
I would go
They said don't take it
Well, I won't
They said don't fake it
I would take you there
I would, I would take you there
But you wouldn't care
Early in the morning, freezing
Just to say
Early breakfast on the park bench
Everyday
I won't regret it
And I won't forget it
I would take you there
I would, I would take you there
But you wouldn't care
But you know everything
At least you said so
Would you know everything
At least the music made you smile
And even laugh awhile
And the words, they made you cry
I would take you there
I would, I would take you there
I would take you there
But you wouldn't care
The opening lines of the song "If you lead the way / I will follow / Although it's not the way / I would go" speak to the theme of following someone else's lead even when it may not be what one would choose for themselves. This idea is reinforced in lines like "They said don't take it / Well, I won't / They said don't fake it / Well, I won't." These lyrics suggest a certain level of defiance towards others' expectations or advice, and a determination to stay true to oneself.
The reference to "early breakfast on the park bench every day" serves as a recurring image in the song that connotes a sense of simplicity, perhaps even hardship. The lines "I won't regret it / And I won't forget it" imply a sense of nostalgia for this time and place, despite its difficulties. The final section of the song, beginning with "But you know everything / At least you said so," turns inward and becomes more introspective. The singer reflects on the power of music to evoke emotion, even tears, and wonders if the person they are addressing, who seems to have all the answers, has been affected by it as well.
