Dick Haymes (September 13, 1918 – March 28, 1980) was one of the most popular American male vocalists of the 1940s and early 1950s.
He was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. His Irish-born mother, Marguerite Haymes (1894-1987), was a well-known vocal coach and instructor. He became the vocalist in a number of big bands, worked in Hollywood on radio and in many films throughout the forties and fifties.

Years later (1955), this act of his nearly caused his deportation to Argentina on an unrelated technicality in immigration law. During World War II, he was briefly detained at Ellis Island.
Haymes was married six times and had six children. His most famous marriages were to film actresses Joanne Dru (1941-1949) and Rita Hayworth (1953-1955). His daughter Stephanie Haymes was married to Sir Elton John's lyricist Bernie Taupin

I can't see anyone but you
Sha bop sha bop
Are the stars out tonight
I don't know if it's cloudy or bright
I only have eyes for you dear
But I can't see a thing in the sky
I only have eyes for you
I don't know if we're in a garden
Or on a crowded avenue
You are here and so am I
Maybe millions of people go by
But they all disappear from view
And I only have eyes for you
The song "I Only Have Eyes For You" sung by Dick Haymes is a classic love song with its beautiful melody and touching lyrics. The opening line of the song, "My love must be a kind of blind love/I can't see anyone but you," indicates how deeply the singer is in love with the person addressed in the song. The lyrics express the singer's feelings of love and admiration as they declare how they are completely smitten and captivated by their partner, seeing only them and nothing else in the world.
The second verse of the song shows just how all-encompassing the singer's love is, as they sing "Are the stars out tonight?/I don't know if it's cloudy or bright/I only have eyes for you dear." The singer is so devoted to the one they love that nothing else matters to them, not even the beauty of the night sky. The song's chorus repeats the same theme, "The moon may be high/But I can't see a thing in the sky/I only have eyes for you," emphasizing the singer's single-minded focus on their loved one.
The final verse encapsulates the feeling of being in love with someone so completely that the rest of the world no longer exists. The singer croons, "Maybe millions of people go by/But they all disappear from view/And I only have eyes for you," proclaiming that even in a crowded avenue, they see only their lover. The song's gentle, romantic ambiance is a perfect backdrop for expressing the depth of true love.
