Born into a poor family in Maceió (capital of Alagoas, Northeast Brazil), Djavan formed the group Luz, Som, Dimensão (LSD - "Light, Sound, Dimension"), playing Beatles covers. In 1973 Djavan moved to Rio de Janeiro and started singing in local nightclubs. After competing in several festivals he gained attention and recorded the album A Voz, o Violão e a Arte de Djavan in 1976. The album included the song "Flor de Lis" which became one of his most memorable hits. Albums that followed included his other musical influence, African music, and additional hits followed like "Açaí", "Sina" and "Samurai", which featured Stevie Wonder's harmonica. His best known compositions are: "Meu Bem Querer", "Oceano", "Faltando um Pedaço", "Esquinas", "Seduzir", "Pétala", "Lilás", "A Ilha", "Fato Consumado", "Álibi", "Azul" and "Serrado".
His songs have been recorded by Al Jarreau, Carmen McRae, The Manhattan Transfer, and, in Brazil by Gal Costa, Dori Caymmi, Nana Caymmi, Lenine, João Bosco, Chico Buarque, Daniela Mercury, Ney Matogrosso, Dominguinhos, Caetano Veloso, Maria Bethânia, Johnny Alf, and other artists. The 1988 Epic Records single, "Stephen's Kingdom", featured a guest appearance from Stevie Wonder.
In 1999, his live concert double-volume album, Ao Vivo, has sold 1.2 million copies and the song, "Acelerou" became the Best Brazilian song of the year at 2000 Latin Grammy Awards.

As esquinas
Por que passei
Só eu sei
Só eu sei
Sabe lá
O que é não ter
E ter que ter pra dar
Sabe lá
E quem será
Nos arredores do amor
Que vai saber reparar
Que o dia nasceu?
Só eu sei
Os desertos
Que atravessei
Só eu sei
Só eu sei
Sabe lá
O que é morrer de sede
Em frente ao mar
Sabe lá
Sabe lá
E quem será
Na correnteza do amor
Que vai saber se guiar?
A nave em breve
Ao vento vaga
De leve e traz
Toda paz
Que um dia
O desejo levou
Só eu sei
As esquinas
Por que passei
Só eu sei
Só eu sei
E quem será
Na correnteza do amor
Que vai saber se guiar?
A nave em breve
Ao vento vaga
De leve e traz
Toda paz
Que um dia
O desejo levou
Só eu sei
As esquinas
Por que passei
Só eu sei
Só eu sei
Só eu sei
The lyrics of Djavan's song Esquinas talk about the personal journey of someone who has gone through many difficult and challenging experiences. The singer declares that only they know the corners (esquinas in Portuguese) they have been to, the struggles they have been through, the places they have visited, and the things they have learned. The singer expresses that it is challenging to understand what it means to have nothing and have to give, and understands the feeling of wanting something desperately but cannot obtain it.
The lyrics also talk about the challenges of love and self-discovery. The singer describes the deserts they have crossed, and how sometimes the journey of love can feel like dying of thirst in front of an ocean. However, they still have hope and believe that someone will come who can navigate the river of love with them. The second verse also talks about the ship that will soon sail with the wind and bring peace, the peace that the desire has taken away.
The chorus repeats the sentiment that only the singer knows the corners they have been to, hinting at the idea that we all have our individual experiences and struggles that no one else can comprehend fully.

O lindo dessa letra é o duplo sentido na frase " Só eu sei", tanto de solidão em passar por algo sozinho, como também de só ele saber o que se passa em sua vida.

What does it translate into English says?
Silva Music
@Jonad Joshua A translator at Google would help you. but I will translate what I said:
The beauty of this letter is the double meaning in the phrase "Only I know", both from loneliness in going through something alone, as well as from the fact that only he knows what is going on in his life.
Monica Silva
Com certeza. É como o ditado popular " cada cabeça, uma sentença". Todos nós somos solitários, em um mundo cheio de solidão.
