Fools Rush In
Doris Day Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

"Romance is a game for fools"
I used to say
A game I thought I'd never play
"Romance is a game for fools"
I said and grinned
Then you passed by
And here am I
Throwing caution to the wind

Fools rush in where angels fear to tread
And so I come to you, my love, my heart above my head.
Though I see the danger there
If there's a chance for me, then I don't care

Mm-mm-mm-mm
Fools rush in where wise men never go
But wise men never fall in love, so how are they to know?
When we met, I felt my life begin
So open up your heart and let this fool rush in

Fools rush in where wise men never, never, never go
Eh, but wise men never fall in love, so how are they to know?
Ahh, when we met, girl, I felt my life begin
So open up your heart and let this fool rush in

Just open up your heart and let this fool rush on in

Just open up your heart because I-I-I-I-I-I-I am coming in
Open up your heart and let this fool rush in!!

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "Fools Rush In" by Doris Day and Andre Previn explores the idea that romance and love are for fools, hence the line "Romance is a game for fools". The singer initially attempts to distance themselves from the idea of love and romance, believing that it is not worth the risk to put their heart on the line. However, their perspective changes when they encounter someone who catches their attention and ignites a spark within them. They are drawn to this person and are willing to take the risk and throw caution to the wind.

The chorus of the song emphasizes the pitfalls of rushing into love, likening it to foolishness in the line "Fools rush in where angels fear to tread". Despite this recognition of the danger involved, the singer is still willing to take the leap of faith in the hopes of finding love. They are aware that wise men do not fall in love, but they argue that wisdom may not always be the best guide in matters of the heart.

Overall, the song is a testament to the transformative power of love, showing how it can make even the most cynical individuals take a chance on one of life's greatest mysteries.

I listen to DorIs Day sings. There really isn’t another voice that can be described as
Perfect. I’m so very happy that she left a legacy. We can barely for us. It took me awhile to get to the point where I can listen to that golden voice or watch one of her marvelous movies that could simply brighten many days. My guess is that she’s been leading the angel. No one else could hold a candle to DorIs Day. She always the one who
Adopted all the stray dogs and
Louis was an Irish Setter.
My son has said his dad in
Waiting in a long line of people, so
Dad could tell DorIs how much his
Wife loved her. Somehow, I think he got
To to tell her.

LETRA

Então eu não me importo,

Fools rush in, where angels fear to tread
And so I come to you my love
My heart above my head
Though I see the danger there
If there's a chance for me
Then I don't care, oh-oh-oh-oh
Fools rush in, where wise men never go
But wise men never fall in love
So how are they to know
When we met, I felt my life begin
So open up your heart and let
This fool rush in
And I don't care, oh-oh-oh-oh
Fools rush in, where wise men never go
But wise men never fall in love
So how are they to know
When we met, I felt my life begin
So open up your heart and let
This fool rush in
So open up your heart and let
This fool rush in
So open up your heart and let
This fool rush in
So open up your heart and let
This fool rush in

I've listened to all the versions of this ballad and Doris gets my vote. She ALWAYS sounds sincere.♥

Daniel Victor

Do you hear Vera Lynn’s version?

Mike Valjean

IMHO, only Doris and Elvis sang this song flawless, with deep understanding of lyrics. Yes, I agree, she always sounds sincere.

You are so right. I've had people comment on some of my video's that they didn't know she sang ... ! I think her son Terry was right ... he said he felt her movies unfortunately got in the way of her singing career. As much as I love her movies .. its her singing that really amazes me. I don't know how she had time to do both .. but aren't we lucky she did ! Thank you .. so happy you enjoyed !

Gone 2 years now, but never never forgotten. Thank you for all these wonderful songs and for all those films you left behind.

Dayniac4324

Have to agree with you. She really was one of the best. What I love about the Duet album is - we're used to hearing her with a full orchestra and here she is with a trio . She really could do it all. And you're so right - she had quite a life. As she says in her book - it was far from all sunshine and happiness. But - she always seemed to make the best of it and move on striving for a happy life.

I think she could sing jazz... but really she is the best ballad singer ever ..in my opinion. She preferred slow tempos and from what i've read it was a constant battle with columbia. They wanted up tempos .. she wanted slow. And she's so good at them !! I wish she got the acolades she so richly deserves ! She did finally get a lifetime achievement grammy a couple of years ago !

she's such a class act, timeless
