Day's film career began during the latter part of the Classical Hollywood Film era with the 1948 film Romance on the High Seas, and its success sparked her twenty-year career as a motion picture actress. She starred in a series of successful films, including musicals, comedies, and dramas. She played the title role in Calamity Jane (1953), and starred in Alfred Hitchcock's The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956) with James Stewart. Her most successful films were the bedroom comedies she made co-starring Rock Hudson and James Garner, such as Pillow Talk (1959) and Move Over, Darling (1963), respectively. She also co-starred in films with such leading men as Clark Gable, Cary Grant, David Niven, and Rod Taylor. After her final film in 1968, she went on to star in the CBS sitcom The Doris Day Show (1968–1973).
Day was usually one of the top ten singers between 1951 and 1966. As an actress, she became the biggest female film star in the early 1960s, and ranked sixth among the box office performers by 2012. In 2011, she released her 29th studio album, My Heart, which became a UK Top 10 album featuring new material. Among her awards, Day has received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and a Legend Award from the Society of Singers. In 1960, she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress, and in 1989 was given the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement in motion pictures. In 2004, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George W. Bush followed in 2011 by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association's Career Achievement Award. She was one of the last surviving stars of the Golden Age of Hollywood.
Her death was announced by her charity, the Doris Day Animal Foundation, on Monday 13th May 2019.

There They Are
Doris Day Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Where they are a lucky star shines above
And what they say along the way may last for years
What they do may not be new but watch out for tears
There they are, naive but not unwise
Summer dreams reflected in their eyes
Two kids for whom the roses bloom and Spring never dies
Two kids for whom the roses bloom and Spring never dies
Love can't be far anywhere where they are
The song "There They Are" by Doris Day talks about the innocence and beauty of young love. The lyrics describe a boy and girl who are deeply in love and how their love seems to shine a bright star above them. The words "naive but not unwise" suggest that while they may be young and inexperienced, they understand the important things about life, which is love. The couple's conversations along the way are likely to be remembered for years to come as they build their relationship. The lyrics imply that there may be struggles or tears along the way, but their love for each other can withstand them.
The phrase "two kids for whom the roses bloom and Spring never dies" is a poetic way of saying that their love is forever young and fresh. The idea is that their love is so pure and strong that it will never wither or fade away. The song does not have a specific narrative; it rather portrays the general feeling of young love and how it endures.

That was wonderful, as always! I was so entranced by the song, which I'd never heard before, that I just sat there in a stupor, not realizing the song and video were over! Thank you for finding these songs and all the wonderful photos! :-)

So beautiful!!! Thanks so much for posting this! I had never heard this one before--and I just love it (actually, I can't think of a Doris Day recording that I DON'T love!!). Yes, Doris had such wonderful chemistry with all of her leading men; that's because they all fell in love with her :) How sad that she never found someone in real life to really love and treasure her--for she truly is a treasure!!! Thanks for the treat; I simply adore Doris Day--always have, always will!!

I'm getting sentimental over an era that was before my time - I must have lived a previous life. Great job as always, Toni.

Thanks for having posted this. It's a lovely song, and new to me. Of course, with her having recorded 1100 songs, it isn't surprising that I have so much more to learn, even after a lifetime of enjoying her music, movies and beautiful persona. Thanks, again.
