Hundred Years From Today
Doris Day Lyrics

Life is such a great adventure
Learn to live it as you go
No one in the world can censure
What we do here below

Don't save your kisses, just pass them around
You'll find my reason is logic'lly sound
Who's going to know that you passed them around
A hundred years from today!
Why crave a penthouse that's fit for a queen
You're nearer Heaven on Mother Earth's green
If you had millions what would they all mean
A hundred years from today
So laugh and sing, make love the thing
Be happy while you may
There's always one, beneath the sun
Who's bound to make you feel that way
The moon is shining, and that's a good sign
Cling to me closer and say you'll be mine
Remember, darling, we won't see it shine
A hundred years from today
A hundred years from today

Don't save your kisses, just pass them around
You'll find my reason is logic'lly sound
Who's going to know that you passed them around
A hundred years from today!
Why crave a penthouse that's fit for a queen
You're nearer heaven on Mother Earth's green
If you had millions what would they all mean
A hundred years from today
So laugh and sing, make love the thing
Be happy while you may
There's always one, beneath the sun
Who's bound to make you feel that way
The moon is shining, and that's a good sign
Cling to me closer and say you'll be mine

Remember, darling, we won't see it shine
A hundred years from today

Overall Meaning

The song "Hundred Years From Today" sung by Doris Day speaks about the fleeting nature of life and the importance of enjoying the present moment. The lyrics encourage the listener to embrace the adventure of life and to live it to the fullest. The first stanza conveys the message that life is a great adventure, and we should learn to live it without being bothered by censures from people. The second stanza urges the listener to live in the moment and not to hoard kisses, as they wouldn't matter a hundred years from now. It also suggests that materialistic desires like a penthouse or money are insignificant, and we should enjoy simple pleasures like nature.

The third stanza emphasizes the importance of happiness and being content in the present moment. The song advises the listener to make love a priority and to be open to the possibility of meeting someone who will make them feel that way. The chorus repeats the message of the second stanza, reminding us that life is fleeting, and we should spend our time enjoying it. The final stanza ends with a bittersweet note, implying that although the moon is shining brightly today, we will not be here to see it shine in a hundred years.

Overall, "Hundred Years From Today" is a poignant reminder to live life to the fullest and to appreciate the present moment for what it is.

Is it safe to say that Doris' singing style has never been equaled & she never really received the accolades she's entitled to? Thank goodness her worldwide following of fans (or friends as she refers to her fans) know better & appreciate her. Her songs will live on. Thanks again for uploading this video.

Beautiful song and wonderful video, dear Toni! As usual, your work is first class. Just love the pictures of Doris with these great leading men! Wonderfully done. Really enjoyed watching and listening, and, of course, it's going right to my "classy ladies" playlist! Luv, Chris xoxox

I discovered this track only a week ago, on BBC Radio 3. What a cool song, and so well delivered by an artist I'd only associated with cowboy tunes. A real revelation, and so my h classier than the Sinatra version and its heavy orchestration.
