When You Wish Upon a Star
Eddie Fisher Lyrics

They possess a gift or two
One of them is this
They have the power to make a wish come true
When you wish upon a star
Makes no diff'rence who you are
Anything your heart desires will come to you
If your heart is in your dream
No request is too extreme
When you wish upon a star
As dreamers do
Fate is kind
She brings to those who love
The sweet fulfillment of their secret longing
Like a bolt out of the blue
Fate steps in and sees you thru
When you wish upon a star
Your dreams come true
When you wish upon a star
Makes no diff'rence who you are
Anything your heart desires will come to you
If your heart is in your dream
No request is too extreme
When you wish upon a star
As dreamers do
Fate is kind
She brings to those who love
The sweet fulfillment of their secret longing
Like a bolt out of the blue
Fate steps in and sees you thru
When you wish upon a star
Your dreams come true
The song "When You Wish Upon a Star" by Eddie Fisher was originally written by Leigh Harline and Ned Washington for the 1940 Disney film Pinocchio. The lyrics of the song convey a simple yet powerful message - that when a star is born, it possesses the power to make wishes come true. The song goes on to suggest that this power is available to everyone, regardless of who they are, as long as they have faith and hope in their dreams.
The opening lines of the song talk about how stars have a "gift or two" and one of those gifts is the power to make wishes come true. The rest of the song focuses on the power of wishing upon a star and the idea that when someone follows their heart's desires, their dreams can come true. The lyrics emphasize that if your heart is in your dream, no request is too extreme and that when you wish upon a star, as dreamers do, fate is kind.

I remember Eddie singing Oscar nominated songs on the Oscar telecast. I remember the shows from the late 50s, when I was just a kid, and stayed up late waiting to see Eddie sing a nominated song.

Just great. What a way he has with a song. George Burns would laughingly refer to himself as silver throat. Eddie is indeed the possessor of a golden voice.

Me too. Would have been nice to have a follow up album. I guess Eddie was busy with other things, but at least we have this album. No one could sing like Eddie, no one...

Interesting to note: The following year Eddie sang rhe Oscar winning song at the Oscars ceremony. I think it was "Love is a Many Spendired Thing." Also, he probably never made a follow-up as he was only with RCA another 4years after this album. Would have been a nice follow-up during his second RCA period from '66-'68 in his deeper-60's voice.

Thank you. Love this album. Have it on vinyl... Wished he had made a follow-up with post 1955-6 Oscar winning songs...

On the album he said he would update things as new songs won the Academy Award, but as they the best laid plans etc.
