After becoming a police officer, like his father, during the late 1960s, Money began to be interested in music, and eventually ended his law enforcement career in favor of becoming a musician. He moved to Berkeley, California and became a regular at area clubs, where he eventually got enough attention to secure a recording contract with Columbia Records. Later in the 1970s, he charted with singles such as "Baby Hold On" and "Two Tickets to Paradise". Money continued his successes and took advantage of the MTV music video scene in the early 1980s with his humorous narrative videos for "Shakin'" and "Think I'm in Love", but his career began to fail him after several unsuccessful releases in the mid-1980s, accompanied by his struggles with drug addiction.
Money made a comeback two years later in 1986 and returned to the mainstream rock spotlight with the album Can't Hold Back, which featured a Ronnie Spector duet with "Take Me Home Tonight", which reached the Top 10, along with the hit "I Wanna Go Back". Money followed the album with another Top 10 hit, late 1988's "Walk on Water", but his Top 40 career ended when "I'll Get By" charted in 1992. During the 1990s and 2000s, Money continued to release numerous compilation albums along with several albums featuring new material. Today, he still tours the "Oldies" circuit regularly, often accompanied by other successful rock acts from his era, and has also made several television appearances on American sitcoms. Since 1992, Money has traditionally opened the summer concert season for DTE Energy Music Theatre in Clarkston, MI.
Eddie Money passed away from complications related to esophageal cancer in 2019 at the age of 70.
Prove It Every Night

Just take my word that we're okay
Talk is cheap so please beware
What you hear in the ladies room
While you're fixin' your hair
Stories spring from imagination
Overheated by rock 'n roll fixation
You make me prove it every night
I just wanna make it right
Keeps the magic in our lives
You make me prove it every night
Baby I know the reason why
You make me prove it every night
You surround yourself with your girlfriends
In the end it's me and you alone, at home
Where's the girl that I once knew
She turned around and she took away my blues
I'd been singing for you
It's a funny way to keep amused
Giving everything I've got to you, baby
You make me prove it every night
I just wanna make it right
Keeps the magic in our lives
You make me prove it every night
Baby I know the reason why
You make me prove it every night
Every time I turn around
All o' your friends they put me down
Is that the reason why
You make me prove it every night?
You make me prove it every night
I just wanna make it right
Keeps the magic in our lives
You make me prove it every night
You make me prove it every night
Keeps the magic in our lives
Baby I wanna do it right
You make me prove it every night
You make me, you make me
Prove it every night
You make me, you make me
Prove it every night
In Eddie Money's song Prove It Every Night, the lyrics explore the theme of trust and the difficulties inherent in maintaining it. The singer expresses frustration at the doubt and insecurity that his partner seems to have, as he is constantly being forced to "prove" his love for her. He notes that talk is cheap and that stories can easily be fabricated, cautioning against the rumors that may come from his partner's interactions with her friends. Despite this, he is willing to do whatever it takes to make things right and keep the magic alive in their relationship.
The chorus repeats the phrase "you make me prove it every night" several times, emphasizing the idea of constant testing and the need for reassurance. This sentiment is reflected in the verses as well, as the singer reflects on the challenges of being with someone who is so focused on checking and verifying his feelings. He is left feeling frustrated and unsupported by her actions, yet he still works hard to prove his worth.
Overall, the lyrics to Prove It Every Night explore the complex emotional landscape that can be encountered in a relationship, particularly when it comes to issues of trust and self-doubt. The song encourages the listener to value themselves and their own worth, while also recognizing the importance of being supportive and reassuring to those we care about.
