Heavily influenced by American rock & roll, Mitchell (who went solo in 1963) has often recorded outside France, at first in London, but later in Memphis and Nashville, Tennessee. Guitarist Jimmy Page and drummer Bob Graham were among the British session musicians who regularly supported him in London.

Tu m'as laissé la terre entière
Toutes ses rues me tuent
Et maintenant que vais-je faire? is a song by Eddy Mitchell that speaks of despair and heartbreak after a lost love. The lyrics describe the emptiness and loneliness that the singer feels after his significant other leaves him. He wonders what he will do with his life and how he will spend his time now that she is gone. He is tormented by memories of the past, including nights spent together that are now meaningless, and a heart that beats too hard and too fast.
The singer asks his friends to be kind to him, knowing that they cannot take away his pain. Even the city of Paris, with all its beauty and excitement, cannot distract him from his heartache. He resolves to laugh instead of crying, and to pass the long nights in flames of passion and despair until the morning when he will hate her. The song ends on a bleak note, with the image of the singer seeing the end of the road in his mirror, with no flowers or tears at the moment of goodbye. He feels that he has nothing left to do, as his love has left him with a sense of emptiness that cannot be filled.
