Drink the Water
Eisley Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Little wicked boy, come out and shake my hand

I come from where you come from
, I’ve seen what you’ve seen

Come lay under my wing, fade into the night

I love you, I can save you if you believe

Drink the water from the mud little boy
Drink the water from the mud

Tell me that you don’t belong little boy

Tell me that you don’t belong

Little impish one, remember what we planned
We won’t hear whistles calling when we are out to sea
Come lay under my wing, morning’s over the shore

I love you, I can teach you if you believe

Drink the water from the mud little boy

Drink the water from the mud

Tell me that you don’t belong little boy

Tell me that you don’t belong

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Eisley's song "Drink the Water" speak to the relationship between the singer, who is an older and more experienced individual, and a younger, "wicked" boy. The singer extends a hand to the boy, inviting him to come out from wherever he is hiding and into the open, where he can be seen and heard. The singer is able to relate to the boy, having come from a similar background and seen similar things. They offer to shelter the boy under their wing and guide him through the darkness of the night or the morning, as they profess a deep love for the boy and offer to save or teach him, provided that he believes.

The invitation to "drink the water from the mud" is an example of the singer's metaphorical language. In this context, the mud may represent the difficulties and challenges of life, and the water may represent the nourishing and life-giving qualities that can be found within it. By urging the boy to "drink the water," the singer is encouraging him to embrace life, even if it is not always pleasant or easy. The refrain of "Tell me that you don't belong," could be seen as a challenge to the boy to assert his sense of identity and belonging in the world, even when it feels like he is an outsider.

Overall, the lyrics to "Drink the Water" suggest a mentor-mentee relationship between the singer and the boy, as well as a message of hope and guidance for those who may be struggling to find their place in the world. The invitation to embrace the challenges and difficulties of life rather than shying away from them, paired with the offer of guidance from a more experienced individual, creates a powerful and inspiring message.

My friend had a party and I saw an Eisley poster on their wall, I checked online to listen to some tunes of theirs, and this was the one that came up. So, I periodically listen to this, which really isn’t the kind of music I generally like, but the mood shift at 0:37 and then again for the chorus is pretty spot on.
Really amazing production as well. Warm and rich. Piano and guitar keep it all together while drums and vocals are on the top doing some Lofi dilla beat shit over I don’t even know what kind of vocals you’d call this?
Just very talented singing.

I just can't stop listening to this song today. It's just beautiful. Reminds me a lot of Copeland's You Are My Sunshine. Loving the bass line in the second verse.

The Valley was something totally different to their previous albums and that's what I loved about it. But I also love that they brought out Currents with their older style and still managed to produce new sounds and beautiful melodies. In my opinion all their albums seem to be brilliant in their own individual ways, yet they all distinctively sound like eisley and only eisley. I hope people realise how talented this band really is! So underrated.

I think Combinations might be might favorite as well. It's so short though, so I think the Valley might be their best record yet (as a cohesive whole). Currents is still very uneven for me so far though I think it best represents the maturation of their sound and musical direction.

Matt

this song is still perfection

Eisley has been my favorite band since I was 8 and I'm so excited for yet another amazing album. Stacy sounds perfect as usual and I love the orchestra pieces!
