Broken vs The Way We Were Born
Emarosa Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Where to now?
Drifting his body
Cutting you down
And I can't pretend
His eyes don't burn,
Holes in your skin

Now all I see is the filth
In the hands of another man
His face in my thoughts,
My words become lost
And no longer make sense

Am I lost forever?
The damage has been done
For so long

How did you ever see me broken?
Well you forced me to find out everyday
Did you ever see me open?
Well you forced me to find out everyday

Nobody could,
Can you help this, no
The depths that I was brought up
The depths that I was brought up
Brought up

Oh well is it any wonder
Shallow is the way that I was born
Shallow is the way that I was born
The way that I was brought up, up
Tonight

Am I lost forever?
The damage has been done
For so long

How did you ever see me broken?
Well you forced me to find out everyday
Did you ever see me open?
Well you forced me to find out everyday

Oh pretty girl
Keep batting your eyes
'cause when you breathe you lie, lie
Oh pretty girl
You better think twice
'cause second chances are rarer than I

How can we forget who we have become
I'll give it all up.
Please wake up.
Every breathe you take, is a lie

How did you ever see me broken?
Well you forced me to find out everyday

Did you ever see me open?
Well you forced me to find out everyday

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Emarosa's song "Broken vs The Way We Were Born" tell a story of feeling lost and damaged. The opening lines suggest that the singer is lost and doesn't know where to go next. The next lines describe how someone else is causing pain to the singer and causing them to become broken. This is reflected in the repeated question "How did you ever see me broken?" suggesting that the singer is struggling to understand the extent of their pain. The next set of lyrics reveal that the singer can see the filth in the hands of another man, implying that the other person is responsible for their pain.

The chorus continues to reflect on the singer's brokenness and their need for someone to see them as they are. The line "nobody could, can you help this, no" suggests that the singer has lost hope in finding a way out of their pain. The next set of lyrics, "Oh well is it any wonder, shallow is the way that I was born," suggests that the singer has always been shallow and has been brought up to think that way. The next lines, "How can we forget who we have become? I'll give it all up. Please wake up. Every breath you take, is a lie," suggest that the singer is desperate to be seen and understood, willing to change everything if it means they can be seen for who they truly are.

To me emo was never a phase. The clothes and hair may have changed but my playlist hasn't changed. Still stuck in 1998 to 2012. So many great/unknown artists between them times for the genre. I still remember it like yesterday spending hours on MySpace music discovering new unsigned artists to show to friends.

I'm so happy i got to see Emarosa live literally weeks before Jonny got kicked out. It was an experience. Meet Jonny at that show also, he's a genuine guy. His friend told him to sign my friend's shirt "fuck you" but Jonny was like "nah, that'll just ruin the shirt". He's really not a dick like everyone perceives him
