Will You Love Me Tomorrow?
Emilie-Claire Barlow Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You give you love so sweetly
Tonight the light of love is in your eyes
But will you love me tomorrow
Is this a lasting treasure
Or just a moment's pleasure
Can I believe the magic of your sighs
Tonight with words unspoken
You say that I'm the only one
But will my heart be broken
When the night meets the morning sun
I'd like to know that your love
Is love I can be sure of
So tell me now, and I won't ask again
Will you still love me tomorrow
So tell me now, and I won't ask again
Will you still love me tomorrow
Will you still love me tomorrow
Will you still love me tomorrow
Emilie-Claire Barlow's rendition of the song "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" is a classic representation of the timeless struggle in relationships between certainty and doubt. The lyrics open with a moment between two lovers where everything seems perfect, the promise of everlasting love represented in the light shining in their eyes. But almost immediately, the singer admits their fear - "but will you love me tomorrow?"
The verses that follow delve deeper into the singer's hesitation. They wonder if this "moment's pleasure" is worth the risk of heartbreak tomorrow, if this love is a "lasting treasure" or a fleeting distraction. The singer's uncertainty is palpable in their plea for assurance that the love they feel is one they can count on.
The chorus repeats the central question, "Will you still love me tomorrow?" but with added desperation. The singer wants to know that the love they've found will last, that this isn't just a temporary infatuation. The final lines are a hopeful plea, a final request for honesty before the night ends and the morning brings with it the possibility of new doubts.
