Their name was devised by Justin Burford, because his opinion on the ideals of fashion itself but also because of its open interpretation. "I want to break down the walls - within that context, that image, we can do anything we want no matter whether it’s super cheesy or punk, I want to kill fashion, see the end of it."
Frontman Justin Burford and guitarist Rodney Aravena are both ex-members of the Australian group The Sleepy Jackson.
March 2004 saw them release the Rough Diamonds EP, and they followed it up with the Too Careful EP later on in the same year.
After performing at SXSW they were picked up by EMI/Capitol records for a worldwide distribution contract. On 25 August 2005, End of Fashion released their self titled debut album. Their debut single, O Yeah, won two ARIA Awards in 2005.
Their sophomore album Book of Lies was released in Australia in late 2008 and two singles, Fussy and Dying for You, have been released.
End of Fashion are currently working on new songs for their third album.
Dying for You
End of Fashion Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You must be older than you look
Exposing your inner child
No longer a baby
Older than you look
You place your innocent hands over mine
Dying for you
Right back at beginnings
Wait another day
You talk to me in that crazy way
No longer a baby's soul, soul over mine
Dying for you
Dying for you
I'll wait for you
I'm only responding to the innocence in your eyes
Love is anyone's guess
These wants and needs we won't repress
I wont feel lonely today
Ooh and I want you so much
Dying for you
Dying for you
I'll wait for you
Dying for you
Ooh and I want you so much
Now you see me
I see them
They see you
All of these lovers do whatever it is they do
The lyrics of End of Fashion's song Dying for You explore the complexities of love and desire. The opening lines "I saw you, you must be older than you look, exposing your inner child" suggests that the singer has just met someone who appears youthful, but also has a depth of experience and emotion. The line "no longer a baby" brings to mind the idea of someone who has grown up too fast or been through a lot in life. The "innocent hands" placed over the singer's hands convey a sense of vulnerability and trust - this person is willing to open up despite their past experiences.
The chorus, with its repetition of "dying for you", suggests a desperate yearning for the person the singer has just met. The second verse continues to explore the idea of beginning anew ("Right back at beginnings, wait another day") and the way in which this new person speaks ("you talk to me in that crazy way") which may be different from the singer's previous experiences. The line "love is anyone's guess" underscores the uncertainty and unpredictability of emotions. The bridge ("these wants and needs we won't repress") suggests that the singer is willing to embrace their feelings, even if it means taking a risk.
Overall, the lyrics of Dying for You can be interpreted as a reflection on the complexities of love and the way that meeting someone new can open up new possibilities and emotions.
