Quietus
Epica Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The culprit, you act before thinking
Caught in your ignorant sin
And lying to your own reflection,
You thought you could hide

Deprived of my own innocence, denied
The infinity of recurring torment, is your comeuppance
See, hear the torture inside
Devouring what was left of my pride
You thought it's not going to happen to you,
Thought you could hide

Deprived of my own innocence, denied
The infinity of recurring torment, is your comeuppance
Dwelling in my mind, mixed up and
Your regret has spread over the sea

Ooh

Deprived of my own innocence, denied
The infinity of recurring torment, is your comeuppance

Dwelling in my mind, mixed up and
Your regret has spread over the sea

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Epica's song Quietus depict the repercussions of acting impulsively without considering the consequences of one's actions. The first few lines describe the act of committing a wrongdoing without much thought, and then attempting to conceal it from oneself. The singer, suffering from the after-effects of the perpetrator's actions, expresses feelings of loss and agony. The lines "Deprived of my own innocence, denied / The infinity of recurring torment, is your comeuppance" convey the idea that the perpetrator's actions have taken away the singer's peace of mind and caused them to suffer repeatedly. Despite the perpetrator's attempts to hide their wrongdoing, the impact of their actions is clearly visible to the singer.

The second verse of the song delves deeper into the singer's feelings of despair and frustration. The lines "See, hear the torture inside / Devouring what was left of my pride" describe the emotional turmoil that the singer is going through. The perpetrator's thoughtless actions have left the singer feeling powerless and ashamed. The lines "Dwelling in my mind, mixed up and / Your regret has spread over the sea" suggest that the perpetrator now regrets their actions, but it is too late, as the damage has already been done.

Overall, Epica's Quietus portrays the idea that our actions have consequences - consequences that we may not be aware of or fully comprehend at the time. It also highlights the importance of taking responsibility for our actions and making amends if necessary.

So basically I'm so old, that every Epica video needs remastering.

@jo_g.germany

Exactly my thinking. Just coming from the doctor. The paint is wearing off, as we say here in Germany 😂🖤🤘

@Guillermo-Hena777

The question here is how can we remaster to ourselves? 🙄🤔

@carinasanper

@@Guillermo-Hena777 hahaha, I think listening to Epica.

@Guillermo-Hena777

@@carinasanper Ah! that's an excellent option, point taken!... and you know? as a matter of fact for me, when I am listening music with the ears of my heart and of my soul time really seems to stop, and it is like if music could really remaster me from the inside... music is the best on this universe, don't you think?

17 year's ago exactly was the release date of the album Consign to Oblivion. You picked the perfect day for the Re-release of this wonderful video clip and one of the singles of that classic album 🖤 🫶🤘🏻

@henrigostoso05

Still their best album 'til today

@dac2007

@@henrigostoso05 for me it's one of the "less great". Which is speaking a lot for the quality of the rest of the albums.

@spupydo

@@dac2007 totally agree man. CTO is my less favourite Epica album by far. I thinks it is less heavy than the rest and I don't like the almost lack of grunts and screams. CTO and TPA are my less favorites but I think TPA is better.
