In the mid-1960s Clapton left the Yardbirds to play with John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers. Immediately after leaving Mayall, Clapton formed the power trio Cream with drummer Ginger Baker and bassist Jack Bruce, in which Clapton played sustained blues improvisations and "arty, blues-based psychedelic pop". After Cream broke up, he formed blues rock band Blind Faith with Baker, Steve Winwood, and Ric Grech. Clapton's solo career began in the 1970s, where his work bore the influence of the mellow style of J. J. Cale and the reggae of Bob Marley. His version of Marley's "I Shot the Sheriff" helped reggae reach a mass market. Two of his most popular recordings were "Layla", recorded with Derek and the Dominos; and Robert Johnson's "Crossroads", recorded with Cream. Following the death of his son Conor in 1991, Clapton's grief was expressed in the song "Tears in Heaven", which was featured on his Unplugged album.
Clapton has been the recipient of 18 Grammy Awards, and the Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music. In 2004 he was awarded a CBE at Buckingham Palace for services to music. He has received four Ivor Novello Awards from the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors, including the Lifetime Achievement Award. In his solo career, Clapton has sold more than 100 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling musicians of all time. In 1998, Clapton, a recovering alcoholic and drug addict, founded the Crossroads Centre on Antigua, a medical facility for recovering substance abusers.

Only you know and I know
All the love we've got to show,
So don't refuse to believe it
By reading too many meanings.
'Cause you know that I mean what I say,
So don't go and take me the wrong way.
'Cause if you do, it's going to get you someday.
I don't mean to mislead you,
It's just my craziness coming through.
But when it comes down to just two,
I ain't no crazier than you.
[Chorus]
Yeah yeah yeah, you don't need to be pleasing.
No no no, not deceiving.
But it's hard to believe in
When you've been so mistreated.
[Chorus]
Only you know and I know.
Only you know and I know.
The song "You Don't Know Like I Know" by Eric Clapton speaks about the uniqueness of the love shared between two people. The chorus encourages the listener to trust in this love and not to interpret it in any other way because it is genuine. The lyrics reveal that although the singer may seem crazy, they are not any different from their partner. The message is to embrace the love they have with each other and cherish it, rather than to deceive or mistreat one another.
The song features a simple yet catchy rhythm that captures the essence of the message. The repetitive chorus emphasizes the importance of understanding and trusting the love between two people. The use of the word "craziness" is a metaphor used to describe the complexities of love and how it can be overwhelming at times. The lyrics suggest that both partners experience this intensity equally.

Lyrics :
Would you know my name?
If I saw you in heaven
Would it be the same?
If I saw you in heaven
I must be strong
And carry on
'Cause I know I don't belong
Here in heaven
Would you hold my hand?
If I saw you in heaven
Would you help me stand?
If I saw you in heaven
I'll find my way
Through night and day
'Cause I know I just can't stay
Here in heaven
Time can bring you down
Time can bend your knees
Time can break your heart
Have you begging please
Begging please
Beyond the door
There's peace, I'm sure
And I know there'll be no more
Tears in heaven
Would you know my name?
If I saw you in heaven
Would you be the same?
If I saw you in heaven
I must be strong
And carry on
'Cause I know I don't belong
Here in heaven
