Dance With a Stranger
Escape With Romeo Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You stay at home
you yearn for someone
that keeps you from feeling alone
someone sent you
sent you a rose
everybody needs love
dance with a stranger
You were hiding under blankets
the day after that
he left early in the morning
you were feeling bad
something ain't quite normal
something ain't quite clear
you can't remember his face
It seems as he wasn't there
dance with a stranger
Tonight in your city
you can see the blue moon
the stranger is waiting
in your hotel room
dance with a stranger
Escape With Romeo's song 'Dance With a Stranger' talks about the feeling of loneliness that people experience in the city. It begins with the singer acknowledging the dark and quiet city night and the feeling of wanting company. The song shows the importance of love and affection which is highlighted by the rose that has been sent to the person, indicating that love can come from various sources. The lyrics also refer to the urge for someone to be with, someone who will take away the loneliness and the feeling of being alone.
In the next verses, the events of the past are highlighted. It speaks about the person hiding under the blankets after spending the previous day with someone, who left early the next morning resulting in the feeling of anxiousness which is apparent by the person feeling bad. The use of phrases like "something ain't quite normal" and "something ain't quite clear" add a sense of confusion to what might have happened the day prior. The song concludes with an ominous note, with the introduction of a stranger waiting in the hotel room as the blue moon shines down.
