After a solo tour in the fall of 2003, Alexakis decided to continue with Everclear, organizing a new band that made its debut in March of 2004. The new lineup consisted of bass player Sam Hudson, guitarist Dave French, and drummer Eric Bretl. In the summer of 2004, the band added keyboard player Josh Crawley, and swapped Bretl for former Everclear drum tech Brett Snyder. The new lineup released its first recording, a cover of Woody Guthrie's This Land Is Your Land, that summer. A self-released EP of performances recorded for XM Satellite Radio called Closure was given out at shows in the fall of 2004.
Free of a major label, Alexakis spent the ensuing year and half slowly recording material for a new Everclear release. He admitted that the time after the breakup of the original lineup served as a "wake up call", during which he suffered his third divorce and a filing for bankruptcy. Alexakis announced the completion of the album in early 2006,titled Welcome To The Drama Club. The new band is now on Eleven Seven Music.
In August of 2008, drummer Brett Snyder left the band after four years. He was then replaced by Tommy Stewart, who previously played in bands Fuel and Godsmack.

On a routine expedition
They met the greatest earthquake ever known
They were high up on the rapids
When it struck their tiny raft
And plunged them down a thousand feet below
There they go
[Chorus]
To the land of the lost
To the land of the lost
Marshall, Will and Holly
On a routine expedition
They met the greatest earthquake ever known
They were high up on the rapids
When it struck their tiny raft
And plunged them down a thousand feet below
There they go
[Chorus: x 2]
[Talking in the background of the guitar]
The lyrics to Everclear's song "Land Of The Lost" describe the adventures of Marshall, Will, and Holly who were on a routine expedition when they encountered the greatest earthquake ever known. The trio was on a small raft on rapids when the earthquake hit and caused them to plummet a thousand feet below. The lyrics repeat themselves and the chorus of the song tells us that they have gone to the land of the lost. The song details their journey to an unknown place, and the choice of words implies that it could be a mystical or a dangerous place – hence the name “land of the lost.”
The song can be interpreted in different ways, but one interpretation could be that it is about taking risks and experiencing the thrills of life no matter the consequences. The lyrics may suggest that the trio was on a journey to a place they didn't know, but they encountered something unexpected, and their lives were forever changed.
Overall, "Land of the Lost" is an adventurous song about taking a risk and entering an unknown world. It reminds us that life is full of surprises, and we never know what awaits us beyond the horizon.
