Meat Market
Everybody Else Lyrics

You should be knocking on my heart
You're back
And you should never forget
That the world where we met
Is a meat market
So don't go falling in love with me
You should be reading the sign overhead
Says that this is a meat market
And you'll never get away from me
So what you'd try do about it?
You could just give me your number now
Or make me have to live without it
No, you'll never get away from me
Don't even try
So, what's your number, little girl?
There will be blood on the streets tonight
'cause in this gutter of a world
I see light
It's in the eyes of a girl
Who is so inset (?)
Over meat market
I don't believe we've met before
But i'll be walking into my door
And i'll be throwing your clothes on the bed
Like i said
It's a meat market
And you'll never get away from me
So what you'd try do about it?
You could just give me your number now
Or make me have to live without it
No, you'll never get away from me
Don't even try
So, what's your number, little girl?
No, you'll never get away from me
So what you gonna do about it?
You could just give me your number now
Or make me try to live without it
No, you'll never get away from me
Don't even try
So, what's your number, little girl?
'cause it's a meat market
Yeah, it's a meat market
This world
So, what's your number, little girl?
I said, what's your number, little girl?
What's your number, little girl?
The song "Meat Market" by Everybody Else is a poignant commentary on the complexities of modern-day dating culture. The lyrics urge the listener not to fall in love too quickly, reminding them that the world in which they are meeting prospective partners is ultimately a "meat market". This sentiment is captured perfectly in the chorus, which emphasizes the predatory nature of dating in the modern age: "Don't even try / So, what's your number, little girl?"
The song taps into a range of emotions and experiences that are all too familiar to those who have navigated the dating world in recent years. There is a sense of wariness and cynicism that permeates the verses, as the singer warns against falling too hard for someone who may only see them as a passing fancy. Nevertheless, there is also a glimmer of hope in the bridge, which describes the possibility of finding light in a dark and gritty world. This contrast between light and dark, between cynicism and hope, is what makes "Meat Market" such a powerful and thought-provoking song.
Overall, "Meat Market" is a song that speaks to the complicated nature of modern-day romance. It encourages us to be cautious and guarded, but also reminds us that there is always the possibility of finding something real and lasting in a world that can often feel overwhelming and hostile.

I remember seeing this band in 2007 or 2008 at UCLA. Both this song and "In Memoriam" are catchy as hell.
