I've been following this little ship since I was a young child. The magical ship that went to the stars. Now of course as an adult I understand, but it's still magical to me. This is such a romantic story, this beautiful machine sent fourth carrying the hope of humanity on it's wings.

It's so good to know that voyagers are till now, in 2020 roaming in the cosmos without being colliding with any of the stars, galaxy, planets(I know that in the interstellar space these things are rarely found in many light-years). This shows that our Universe is so interesting and we can never find the exact meaning of Universe

Björn Steylaerts there have been several other probes sent to both Jupiter and Saturn. Look up the Juno and Cassini missions. Very recent missions, with lots of new information.

We would go extinct pretty fast if something large enough slammed into Earth. If that happened, like with the dinosaur-killing asteroid, it would really be interesting to see what life forms survived, and what these life forms would eventually evolve into. I'm obsessed with the fact that most life on Earth (humans, animals, birds, fish, many insects) are all arranged in the same way. 4 appendages (arms, legs, fins, wings), faces, and vital organs are all set up the same way...we all need air (except fish)...reproduce in similar ways (mammals-birth/fish, reptiles and birds-eggs...though female mammals have "eggs" too!)...we all pass away and decay we all have levels of self-preservation...I could go on forever.

I know there are exceptions to all of these, but for the most part we are so very similar and our DNA is very similar too. Even the dinosaurs had basically the same body arrangements that life on Earth does now. So even though dinosaurs were wiped out, the life forms that survived and evolved again into new species were still structured similarly...it would be so interesting to know if our successors would still have the 4 appendages, face, etc...and if they resembled any of our current life forms? Fries my brain thinking about it...as well as all of my questions about Earth and Space, most importantly: what caused "The Big Bang", or whatever formed the universe? What was there before that happened? How could all of this come out of nothingness? Makes my brain hurt...and we probably won't know. I bet the answers are nothing like what we assume they are.

Well, they knew that Voyager 2 would be traveling on a slower trajectory, and also the second of the two Voyagers to encounter Jupiter and Saturn; despite its earlier launch date. Even though it was launched on August 20, 1977 (16 days earlier than its twin), it would hence be named Voyager 2, rather than Voyager 1. In addition, while Voyager 2 would be the first to encounter Uranus and Neptune -- the faster-moving Voyager 1 would, of course, be the first to enter interstellar space.

Just imagine if we stumble on to a satellite similar to voyager(carrying a disc) from some other civilization in the near future. That would be scary and an amazing discovery that there was once a civilization similar to us, thousands of years ago.
My guess is that the universe would be filled with past civilization artifacts wandering through space just as our own, we just need to find them.

I have a question over here: What if some aliens (or any other extraterrestrial life) find the Voyager Golden Records—possible in the vast expanse of the Universe—which were primarily created for this sole purpose. So if we lose contact with the Voyager spacecrafts in the coming future and such a scenario develops that some intelligent life finds it, what would happen next? Wouldn't all the efforts of NASA (and Carl Sagan) go into vain? This is, indeed, a fascinating scenario.

I remember as a kid waiting very impatiently for the voyager to pass each planet and being very disapointed to hear it would be almost a year or more before it would get to the next one.

The distance that these space probes have traveled and will continue to travel well after their power has shut down is amazing and yet in terms of the size of the galaxy they haven’t even scratched the surface distance wise, never mind the distance of the universe which is mind boggling.

The voyager followed a path through which it was sped up by several of the other planets. This was only possible due to special alignments of the planets which occur very rarely. Besides, it's expensive and stuff.

Many people don't seem to know that it'll take another 100,000 years or so for Voyager to reach the nearest star Alpha Centauri....incomprehensible distances, boggles my mind when i think about it. I think a turtle crawling from Earth to the Moon might make it there before Voyager reach Alpha Centauri.

+Luan Phan maybe the reason those many people don't seem to know is because neither voyager is headed toward Alpha Centauri. Voyager 1 is headed toward a star called AC+79 3888 and will get there in 40,000 years...Voyager 2 is headed toward Sirius and will come 4.3 light years (the same distance from us to Alpha Centauri) of it in 296,000 years.

2 out of 4 is pretty good considering they werent supposed to make it past uranus the fact it almost atintersteller space is amazing to me that only takes about 15 minutes to communicate with it (so i guess half hour back nforth) the pioneer ones however werent so lucky either they got damaged , stolen (possibility look at acribo crop circle, or past the sun magnetic influx and cant communicate with it i hope enlightnen me if im wrong

It's amazing to me how all of this stuff (and much more human exploration) is going on in space and so little people seem to be interested in it. All of our interests and concerns, for the most part, are limited to what we see day to day. It's like three people living in a tent at the center of Disney World and they don't look outside. Instead, they all stay in the tent playing checkers, complaining that there's nothing to do.

However, those years are only tiny, minute comparing to the history of the galaxies/earth/human race, etc. Let's wish the world would stay in harmony for a long long time so we can explore/learn/uncover much more surprises out there.

Why are we alone in this universe. It makes no sense. Too many stars, too many planets. We need some proof of our cosmic brothers and sisters out there. we need a message from them, a sight. I hope voyager finds anything, but by now, it wont be able to communicate back to us. its sad. hopefully, the lives it will find out there, will be advanced to be able to understand the golden record. to decode the message and maybe send there own to us.

It’s still a very very long time! Our DAB radios can no longer pick up AM or FM transmissions so it’s very doubtful that another civilisation would use similar technology to us, so probably would never detect anything from Earth.

Space is impossibly huge. Its not only IF intelligent life exist elsewhere, but WHEN. An alien species observing Earth right now from across our own galaxy is seeing light that is 100,000 years old. Likewise, as we gaze upon other stars and their planets in our own stellar neighborhood, we are seeing light that is also very old. The possible alien megastructure everyone has been talking about? Its 1,480 light years away. That means the light we are seeing was emitted during the year 525 AD or so. With current technology, it would take impossibly long to get there.

We assume light speed travel and worm holes are a thing, but what if its impossible? I’m guessing....but I say single cell life is the norm. Multicellular life is much more rare. Complex multicellular life even more rare, and intelligent self-aware complex life rarer still. With trillions of galaxies each with hundreds of billions of stars and trillions of planets, it just has to be that there are multiple, perhaps millions and millions of intelligent civilizations. Its just that contacting and communicating over such vast distances is so difficult.

I have just looked it up: Voyager 2, it turns out, is now 102.8 A.U.'s from the Sun; it, too, has detected at least a modest increase in cosmic ray particles. The inside-the-solar-system particle rate remains about the same, though.
