The lyrics of Falz's song "Paper" highlight the dangers and negative consequences that can arise from a relentless pursuit of money and material wealth. The song warns against losing one's moral compass and getting involved in illegal activities just for the sake of financial gain.
The opening lines emphasize the importance of being aware of the potential dangers associated with chasing money. The repeated phrase "Dem say see danger o, you no dey see danger o" suggests that despite the warnings, the singer seems oblivious to the risks involved. The lyrics caution against losing oneself and compromising one's values for the sake of paper (money).
The following verses depict specific scenarios where individuals are willing to go to extreme lengths to acquire wealth. The reference to living the "fagi life" implies a lavish lifestyle, for which someone may be willing to make sacrifices and even harm others. The lyrics mention wanting luxury cars, expensive bottles, and access to private jets, all at any cost. The phrase "skeletons in your closet" refers to the singer's dark secrets and immoral actions committed for material gain.
The song also touches on the issue of corruption, as the lyrics mention bribing police officers and engaging in criminal activities to satisfy financial desires. The chorus serves as a reminder that all these actions are driven by an insatiable lust for money.
