On my darkest days
Opened up the gate again
For such a long time
Traveled on my own
But you took me home again
I was calling out your name
Hoping you would follow
But you, you never came
Were you scared of drowning?
Would you give it all up for love?
I found shelter, but something’s changed
Since you kept, pushing me away
I’m so glad that now I know
I don’t need you after all
I don’t need you after all
I don’t need you
I was calling out your name
Diving in the water
Hoping you would follow
But you, you never came
Were you scared of drowning?
Would you give it all up for love?
I found shelter, but something’s changed
Since you kept, pushing me away
I’m so glad that now I know
I don’t need you after all
I don’t need you after all
I don’t need you after all
I don’t need you after all
I don’t need you after all
I don’t need you
I don’t need you after all
I don’t need you
The lyrics to "I Don't Need You" by Ferry Corsten We Are Loud depict a person who used to depend on someone else for happiness and support, but has since realized that they can be just as content on their own. The opening lines set up the imagery of the other person being a source of light and comfort during their difficult times. However, the second verse reveals that the singer also saw this person as their salvation in a way, diving into the water and hoping they would follow. Yet, the other person never came, and it's suggested that they might not have been willing to risk anything for love.
The chorus repeatedly asserts that the singer doesn't need this person anymore, despite once feeling like they did. The final line "I don't need you" is particularly striking, as it's a direct rejection of someone who has likely been a prominent figure in the singer's life. The bridge adds another layer to this rejection, as the singer acknowledges that something has changed and that the other person has been pushing them away. It's clear that the singer has outgrown their previous attachment to this person, and is now at a point where they can say confidently that they don't need them.
Overall, the lyrics to "I Don't Need You" convey a sense of empowerment and growth as the singer learns to stand on their own two feet. The song acknowledges how difficult it can be to let go of someone you once relied on, but ultimately celebrates the freedom and independence that comes with realizing you don't need anyone else.
