The Day You Took My Breath
Flowing Tears Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

the day you took my breath
when all we built broke inside

the day you took my breath
when all the earth fell down for me

the day you took my breath
the fading breath of a candle blown

the day you took my breath
when all my fragile dreams were dreamt

I cry me a river
I cry me a lake
I cry me an ocean
and the salt in its water are the words you said

a new street
a longing search
the breath of time
back to a crossroad

I've gone to blackest waters
please don't kill me again

Overall Meaning

The song "The Day You Took My Breath" by Flowing Tears & Withered Flowers speaks of heartbreak and the feeling of being completely shattered when a relationship comes to an end. The lyrics are emotional and raw, expressing the pain and sorrow that comes with losing someone who was a major part of your life. The repetition of the line "the day you took my breath" creates a sense of finality and emphasizes the impact of the breakup on the singer.

The first verse speaks of the moment when everything fell apart, when "all we built broke inside." The line "when all the earth fell down for me" suggests that the singer's world collapsed around them when the relationship ended. The second verse uses vivid imagery to describe the feeling of slowly fading away after the breakup, comparing the singer's dying breath to that of a candle being blown out. The last two lines of this verse express the sadness of losing one's dreams along with the person they loved.

The chorus depicts the singer's intense grief and the seemingly endless tears they shed after the breakup. The metaphor of crying a river, lake, and ocean emphasize the overwhelming nature of the pain. The final line of the chorus, "and the salt in its water are the words you said," suggests that the pain is being caused by hurtful words spoken during the breakup.

The bridge of the song takes the listener through the singer's emotional journey as they search for a way to move on. The metaphor of a "new street" and "longing search" implies that the singer is trying to find a new path or direction in life. They are in the midst of healing, but the process is painful and the memories of the past keep coming back.

The final verse expresses the singer's fear of being hurt again. They have gone through the darkest of emotions and come out the other side, but they are afraid of the pain that could come with opening up to someone again. The line "please don't kill me again" is a plea for the next person to treat them with care and kindness, and not to hurt them in the same way.

Happy to find a space with people who like bands like this one. There was a time when all of them came together with their magical music: The 3rd and the mortal, the gathering, Theatre of tragedy, Paradigma, Left Hand solution, Flowing Tears & withered flowers, early within temptation, Trail of Tears, Tristania.... even early nightwish had that feel...

thanks for the post, but can you tell us where this song comes from (doesn't seem to appear on their regular albums ,is it a single?) thanks in advance...a nice amazing song, atypical in production too.

Okay, looks like there are a few fans of the band around. I need your help, people. After I broke up with my girl friend I just couldn't bear listening to this band for quite a long time. But lately I've been looking everywhere for a particular Flowing Tears song. Well, at least I'm 95 % sure that it was a Flowing Tears song. All I got are fragments of the lyrics. There's a line that goes something like "Unreal the scene to leave with the morning train" and a line about a "nail in the wall"

A

There's mention of nail in the song "The one that I drowned"

Bear On Guitar

Flowing Tears & Withered Flowers - Odium, that's the one.

@siminaaa Well, that was really fast. And it's also the exact song I was looking for. Odium... it still hurts, but now it's almost in a good way. Thank you very, very much for your help. I really appreciate it and I won't forget it!
