Hardy signed her first contract with the record label Vogue in November 1961. In April 1962, shortly after finishing school, her first album, "Oh oh Chéri", appeared, with the title song written by Johnny Hallyday's writing duo. The flip side of the record, "Tous les garçons et les filles" became a huge success, which sold 2 million copies. She had long hair and usually wore jeans with a leather jacket, while accompanying her songs on the guitar.
She sang in English, Spanish, and German occasionally. In 1963, she represented Monaco in the Grand Prix d'Eurovision de la Chanson with "L'amour s'en va" and emerged in fifth place. In 1968, she received the Grand Prix du Disque Académie Charles Cros.
In 1981, she married her long-time companion Jacques Dutronc, with whom she had already had a son (Thomas Dutronc) in 1973. In May 2000, she had a comeback with the album "Clair Obscur". Her son played the guitar, and her husband sang the duet "Puisque vous partez en voyage". Iggy Pop and Etienne Daho participated, as well. She currently lives near Paris.
In 2006 she released a new duets album entitled "Parenthèses" which included a song with her son Thomas.
In 2021, Hardy announced that her health had worsened and that she would not be able to sing again owing to the effects of cancer therapy.

D'autres souvenirs viendront l'effacer
Je me dis que ça ne se peut pas
Que c'est un rêve malheureux
D'autres vont venir, tu sais que c'est vrai
D'autres souvenirs viendront l'effacer
Non, non, non, ce n'est pas un rêve
Non, non, non, ce n'est pas un rêve
Nous ne nous verrons plus
Jamais, jamais, jamais plus
Jamais, jamais, jamais plus
Jamais, jamais, jamais plus
Jamais, jamais, jamais plus
Non, non, non, ce n'est pas un rêve
Non, non, non, ce n'est pas un rêve
Non, non, non, ce n'est pas un rêve
The song "Non Ce N' Est Pas Un Rêve" by Françoise Hardy is a chilling yet poignant composition about accepting the loss of a loved one. The lyrics depict the singer being taken away by people who talk to her, and she allows herself to be carried away. She moves back and forth like in a dream, a dream only the lover has the power to wake her up from. However, the refrain "Non, non, non, ce n'est pas un rêve" repeats throughout the song, establishing that whatever is happening is not a dream. Despite this, the singer still holds onto the hope that this is just a sad dream that they will wake up from.
As the song progresses, the singer admits that they will never see each other again, and that new people will come into their lives and erase the memories they shared. The singer cannot believe that this is happening, but she knows that it is true. The song's repetition of "Jamais, jamais, jamais plus" (Never, never, never again) brings home this message of finality.
In conclusion, the song is a beautiful but somber reflection on love and loss. It illustrates that the singer knows that they must accept that their former relationship is over, but that they will still hold onto the hope that it's only a bad dream they will one day wake up from.
