Piano bar
Francesco De Gregori Lyrics

è la sua fotografia,
chiunque lo conosca bene
può chiamarlo senza offesa
uomo di poca malinconia.
È un pianista di piano bar,
vende a tutti quel che fa
perché piangere non sa.
Nella punta delle dita poco jazz,
poche ombre nella vita.
Solo un pianista di piano bar
e suonerà finché lo vuoi sentire
non ti deluderà,
solo un pianista di piano bar
e canterà finché lo vuoi sentire
non ti disturberà.
Questo strano tipo di bambina,
vuole la compagnia,
la risata forte e l'amicizia a cena,
ama se stesso senza allegria.
È un pianista di piano bar,
vende a tutti quel che fa
non sperare di farlo piangere,
perché piangere non sa.
Nella punta delle dita poco jazz,
poche ombre nella vita.
Solo un pianista di piano bar
che suonerà finché lo vuoi sentire
non ti disturberà,
solo un pianista di piano bar
che canterà finché lo vuoi seguire
non ti deluderà.
The lyrics of Francesco De Gregori's song Piano Bar describe two characters: a male piano player who is known for his lack of melancholy and a strange girl who loves companionship and laughter, but is without joy. The first two lines of the song introduce the male character, describing him as having a white shield on a blue field in his photograph. Anyone who knows him well can call him without offending him. He's a piano player at a piano bar who sells his music to everyone. He cannot be made to cry because he does not know how to cry. He has very little jazz in his fingertips and few shadows in his life. He will play and sing as long as you want to hear him, and he will not disappoint or disturb you.
The second character, a strange girl, is described in the third verse. She loves companionship, laughter, and friendship during dinner, but she does not experience joy within herself. She is another contrast to the piano player who is without sadness. She wants to be around other people but cannot love herself. The refrain repeats the description of the piano player as selling his music to everyone and being incapable of crying because he doesn't know how, having little jazz in his fingertips and few shadows in his life. He will play and sing until you no longer want to hear him, without disturbing or disappointing you.
