落陽
Fumiya Fujii Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Good Bye Bye Bye ‥‥

Good Bye Bye Bye ‥‥

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Fumiya Fujii's song 落陽 paint a picture of a city during sunset seen through the eyes of two people, a girl and a guy, separately, both looking out from a train ride. The girl is carrying a red book on her lap, perhaps an unlucky-in-love book that she consults with. The orange buildings of the city are fading into darkness, and the sounds of train crossings are fading away into the shadow of the evening. A child is crying in the background as the train door opens and closes signaling the end of the journey for the girl. The lyrics are a narrative that depicts the life of city-dwellers, their monotony, their loneliness, and their longing for something more.

On the other hand, in the second half of the song, the lyrics shift to express the story of a man carrying a black bag close to his chest, who falls asleep leaning on the train seat. The train, perhaps representing his life or his journey, takes him to a distant city where someone is waiting for him in a room illuminated by light. The sound of crows while they fly into the darkness, chimneys towering, and holding of hands that are fading into the darkness signify a form of ending, perhaps indicating the end of a day, a relationship, or a journey. The lyrics illustrate people's dreams, their sense of isolation, their weariness, and their hopes for something new.
