I completely agree with some of your points, PKMN fans are able to gappily withstand some of the worst content in Major releases (Sword and Shield were incredibly low quality and people love it thoug I personally love the Galar new Pokémon).

I also fully agree on the Let's Go en tries, they deserve much more credit that what they get.

I saw a video on how MONOLITHSOFT has helped other Nintendo studios in regards with open World Tech, specifically Breath of The Wild.

To me the biggest culprit is The Pokémon Company, they are the ones that get the majority of earnings and I don't know what they do with all of it.

GameFreak has shown repeatedly how far behind they are with game development Tech. I could easily compare GF to FROMSOFTWARE in regards to using the same formula with reskins but with Miyazaki at lead you can always expect the game will look amazing even if that is bundled with bugs and performance issues.

For real, they canceled the live event to celebrate the release of Sword and Shield. They made an excuse they canceled it because of a last-minute oversight, but we all know it was to avoid the upset fans and hard questions. And as far as I know, they never even planned a live event for scarlet and violet.

Look at Pokemon UNITE for example! When they were given constructive criticism look at what they did. They deleted the trailer to remove dislikes because they were called out on their scummy partnership with tencent aka a scummy company. They made the lame excuse "We reuploaded because of an "error" we made" BULL CRAP!!

Pokemon is about to be 30 years old as a franchise, it being a "childrens" game doesn't mean it needs to be braindead and forget that the people who have been fans since red and blue would also like to play something that is a bit challenging. That's why we have different difficulties in games. It's insane that mario finds a way to be as old and kid friendly but give an experience that new players and players that have played since the OG days can enjoy. It''s unacceptable at this point.

I mean you can choose your own difficulty if you just go to the harder areas first. I did that. Only issue was I did the first 2 gyms you're supposed to go to last. Those I steam rolled. But you're gonna also steam roll them in the beginning anyway so nothing changes.

I hate when people dumb down kids content. Yeah, they are ignorant and don't know how things work yet, but they're far better at learning than adults. You don't wipe out complex themes, you make them optional and/or provide simpler ones in parallel so that everyone has something to latch onto and kids have something to work towards.

Like some others said in the comments, Nintendo is already doing collabs like you want them to do. Monolith Soft worked alongside the Zelda team for Breath of the Wild and now Tears of the Kingdom, Retro Studios lends a hand in some projects like back with Mario Kart 7 where they handled retro courses and the one DK Country Returns track. Nintendo also isn't shy about working with third parties to get some extra help. Bandai Namco appears in the credits of Mario Kart 8 and 8 Deluxe, they worked alongside Tantalus when making Twilight Princess HD, Monster Games produced the miracle that was Xenoblade 3DS.

Game Freak meanwhile... I'm under the impression they're still trying to run their company like the indie studio they used to be back in the Game Boy days. Sure they made Pokemon which is now a megahit, but you occasionally see completely separate projects that just seem to fly under everyone's radar. Who remembers Little Town Hero? Giga Wrecker? Friggin Tembo the Badass Elephant where they had to get Sega to publish? Harmoknight? Or if we go back further, Pulseman which managed to get a Wii Virtual Console rerelease and the nothing else? Pretty much none of these games people will point to when they think of Game Freak (with the possible exception of Harmoknight due to being a premiere 3DS eShop title and it happened to have a Pokemon inspired level).

Am pretty sure that the pokemon company owns game freak and they are the ones making gamefreak pump out pokemon games as fast as they can. Also during sword and shield the gamefreak team got split into 2 meaning that any newer game will have even less people working on it meaning that the polish is going down in quality.

@ラテちゃん I think the phrase you were looking for was TPCi makes the vast majority of the decisions for Pokemon. GF still has some control like when it comes to new generations and game design, but TPCi still influences them on how they do it, rushed dev time included. Not to mention everything else like spinoffs, anime, manga, merch, etc.

And I don't disagree with any of this. I was only trying to come up with a theory as to why GF doesn't seem to collab with other Nintendo studios to try and get out a better quality game.

It's really sad too. I've always dreamed of an immersive, seemless openworld pokemon game and everytime gamefreak releases a new game, that dream seems to become more and more unattentable. Even worse, the gameplay and mechanics in S&V are actually good and fun! But the technical and graphical issues alongside lazy developing practices (QOL, poor animations & details) really sucks.

Crazy that they used to make such good games though. Something really fell off mid DS era. Currently playing through Drilldozer on GBA and impressed by how much character and charm it has. Even the Wild area in Sword and Shield made me lol at how bad it was. Honestly convinced a team of under 10 people could come out with something far better in terms of of content and optimisation in about half the time frame.

Heartgold on my NDS was the last time i was really able to get into a pokemon game. I did play X and actually thought it was decent, but never finished it. Also started Arceus but by god i could not bear listening to the characters so i stopped playing that one early.

Literal same situation. I've wanted to get my little brother into Pokemon the same way my older cousin got me into it, so I offered to buy both games if he'd play it with me. Quick criticism Muta: there’s a lot of crackles in your audio in this video. I’m not sure what what’s causing the issue, but I thought it was a problem with my earbuds at first. When I took them out, the crackles and pops were still audible.
It may be how your mic was set up at your desk, because when you cut to audio that was added in post (like at 7:31), you sounded perfectly fine.

I'm not entirely sure about this piece of information. But, I have actually heard that the reason Arceus and Scarlet were both released at the same year was because they were handled by two different teams at Game Freak. Team A handled Arceus while Team B handled Gen 9 and will continue to do so. The problem is that Game Freak is willingly not putting its most veteran employees on the core dual releases and will continue to develop unique games from Team A. Team B is just there to crank out Gen games to just keep lights up and keep Pokémon Company happy and just basically exhausted and kill the franchise slowly but surely.

Last Pokémon mainseries game I fully enjoyed was Gen 6. In 2013, Gamefreak
still felt like they were making strides, and the jump from 2D with 3D elements to full 3D was impressive to me. Of course, mega evolution was a cool mechanic to mess around with.

Aside from that, nowadays I gain my Pokémon fix from rom hacks. Fan games like Moemon and Blazing Emerald feel like a nostalgia trip and a breath of fresh air all at once.

Granted that was always gonna happen since they had more experience with sprites then 3d but they should of redone the gen 6 animations gen 7 similar to how sprites improved every gen. The first time they changed the animations to improve older ones was legends arceus and it’s much better for it.

The biggest frustration for me is how they have started to actually listen on changing and evolving the games beyond the formula used for a few decades, but they are just actively choosing to not invest in proper game engine engineers and other software optimization areas that are so clearly needed on the team. If BotW2 has tech issues as well then we will likely see an expidited update to the Switch, but like you said it isn't all on the hardware in these cases

I think it has less to do with laziness and more to do with burnout and them overworking themselves they released bdsp, legands arceus and Scarlett and violet in a 18 month period so honestly they should probably stop making more pokemon games for a little while but they are most likely working on another game right now to release in between the next mainline game and DLC for these games

you could say it's on GameFreak for making the games, you could say it's on the Pokemon Company for cracking the whip, but the problem is the fanbase. every Pokemon fan I know pre-ordered both versions even though they aren't even optimistic about them. and if it's not them, it's the "this one is different" crowd who is way too invested and snorting lines of copium off the boxart. if it sells, nothing needs to change.

Maybe they should reach back out to Genius Sonority, the guys who made Colosseum and Gale of Darkness. Those games had great story, awesome battle animations, and ran good. Some competition for Game Freak holding the main Pokémon franchise would be good.

They were developed simultaneously with different teams working on each project, arceus was by no means a test run for ScVi. sure there are some QoL changes that are common between the two, but arceus wasn't a test run for ScVi. we'll likely see some of its other changes down the line (see: evolve by choice), but by the time GF realized the stuff in it was popular, ScVi's direction was likely already set in stone.

I like the Genius Sonority Pokemon games (Colosseum, XD Gale of Darkness & Battle Revolution) and they have better effects and animations than the newer 3d titles and those were 2003, 2005 & 2007 games. Clearly there was love put in.

I've been really enjoying the game and haven't really ran into loading issues, only thing is my box loading quite slowly, still like a second or so but normally you have no loading time in boxes. I do have issues with NPC's moving very choppy when they aren't in a small radius of me, and things like shadows glitching out from time to time, but I only play handheld and it isn't too annoying on the smaller screen. My switch really isn't that old tho, probably like 3 months old. Maybe I've been blessed hahaha.

I feel like Pokemon peaked at Black and White/Black and White 2. That was an era when Gamefreak was trying out something new. The games were somewhat polarizing at first, but they went on to become very beloved entries. The series never recovered since its transition to the 3D era.

I’ve been replaying Soul Silver. I want to try out Scarlet but I feel like I’m going to be dissatisfied and disappointed. 4th Gen HGSS offered so much. 5th gen was the last Generation that offered something awesome and unique. 3D really made Pokémon hit or miss for me.

Personally I believe Nintendo might release a new updated switch with the new Zelda Game. Well hopefully they do.
I cannot see how they will ever manage to expand on BoTW without more powerful hardware, since that game was already pushing the switch to its limit.
Luckily Monolith are experts at the dynamic stuff now that makes Xenoblade 3 run amazingly (least it's smooth, and tbh I'd prefer a resolution drop now and then over a frame drop creating a stutter, it's a bit easier to ignore). Which those same systems are being used in the new Zelda game.

I get Nintendo are the kings of taking outdated and underpowered hardware and doing a lot with it, but given that games are getting more and more taxing, Nintendo do need to keep up.

At the very least it should be Monolith developing, or at least helping GameFreak with development. Given their work on BoTW, two Xenoblade games and now the new Zelda game, safe to say that team have the most experience pushing the switch yet keeping things smooth.

Ive been playing the game for about a week at this point on my steam deck, and its been fun with basically no hitches

I honestly think if it wasnt for the performance issues, people would really enjoy it, sad to see it held back so much by GF's incompetence and the switches outdated AF hardware

Whats also unfortunate is theyll still make bank off it no matter what, from brand recognition alone. Parents will buy their kids the game for christmas, the kids will probably not care that much about the issues, and there isnt much that can be done about it

It's kinda weird how people keep referring to Pokémon as a child's game. At this point, the people who were children, growing up with these games are in their twenties now. And it really shows!

The amount of people I've seen, walking/driving around, playing PokémonGO is honestly baffling.

From what I'd imagine, I think people would appreciate a more complex and rich Pokémon game to dive into-- Something that's more mechanically demanding and satisfying to get through.

Not really sure why it being a game aimed at a young audience means the characters and plot have to be absolutely braindead. Imo that's just an excuse to make things as simple and low effort as possible. Especially when it comes to animated movies, some of the best and most successful kids movies were the ones that had actual good characters and thought put into it.

that's the best they can do with yearly releases tbh. They need more time. Xenoblade, zelda etc. got like 5+ years of development. Where gamefreak dipping their toes into this new style of game and had to do it in a year while working on other projects as well. It's a big mismanagement fest.

That moment the only Pokémon games I've recently played were Brilliant Diamond (Which I enjoyed throughout) and some spin-off games like Unite and haven't bought a Game Freak Pokemon game since Let's Go Pikachu (Which was disappointing and I recommend FireRed and LeafGreen over the Let's Go games to this day), that'll tell ya something.

You should've seen how I got dogpiled when I suggested giving Pokemon equipment slots like other RPGs as a way to power up your team. Fans did NOT like that idea at all. What's crazy is, it would actually give the franchise a reason to add more difficulty options.

11:31 my theory is that Let's Go's minimal content worked to its advantage because GF actually had time to polish some of it. The game still has a lot of problems- worthy of 40$ while costing 60$ removing content from FRLG bad implementation of motion controls no items no abilities no regional evolutions and there's probably more I forgot but I genuinely don't regret buying it and I'd decline switching it for any of the games that followed. It is often referred to as a soulless cashgrab but to me only half of that description is true.

I've had no issue with Arceus, Scarlet and Violet do lag on the ocasion but Arceus just never ever lagged even once for me. I have an oled so idk. Never had any problem and they run on a clear 60 for me except scarlet and violet

I'm pretty sure the reason Nintendo hasn't had another one of their development teams help out with Pokemon is that Game freak isn't owned by Nintendo, only partnered. If they had full ownership of the company I'm atleast 90% sure the next game after that buy out would have multiple teams on it to make it atleast decent.

man the random video audio distortions made me think my audio drivers were messed up. Had to check on another pc to verify it happened in the exact same spots. But I do agree valid points. I think we really need a switch 2 or what ever and they can add backwards compatibility. I think the only reason we have not seen one is because they want to be able to keep selling all the latest titles to everyone. But the 3ds ran into this same issue and they tried to do a new3ds that could run games slighty better but it still had fps drops and stutters on the later pokemon games.
