It
George Harrison Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well, I ride on a mail train, baby, can't buy a thrill
Well, I been up all night leanin' on the windowsill
Well, if I die on top of the hill
And if I don't make it, you know my baby will

Don't the moon look good, honey, shinin' through the trees
Don't the brakemen look good, baby, flaggin' down the "Double-E"
Don't the sun look good doin' down over the sea
But don't my gal look fine when she's chasin' after me

Now, the wintertime is comin', the windows are filled with frost
I went to tell everybody but I could not get across

Well, I want to be your lover, baby, I don't want to be your boss
Don't say I never warned you if your train gets lost

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to George Harrison's song "It" are simple but full of deeper meaning. The song is a celebration of Johnny's birthday, and the repetition of the phrase "It's Johnny's birthday" conveys the joy and festivity of the occasion. The lyrics express a wish to give Johnny the best and to make him feel welcomed and appreciated as a guest.

However, the song seems to also touch on themes of rebirth and renewal. The line "And it's so good to have you back from off the shelf" suggests that Johnny was perhaps absent or gone for a while, but now he has returned. This can be interpreted as a metaphor for a new beginning or a fresh start. The lyrics also invite Johnny to wish for what he desires, implying that his birthday is a time for reflection and introspection.

Overall, "It" is a joyous and upbeat song that celebrates the pleasures of life and the importance of connection with others.

@@chriskroll4166, what's interesting to note, if you look into the world histories of high achievers and genius level creative arts, the majority of them are naturally born as left handed.
I've studied this for over 25 years now, as a left-hander myself. Just start thinking of all the popular names you can think of, that are the geniuses throughout the world. You'll notice the list contains a higher percentage of naturally born left-handed individuals.
Ironically, I saw recent news which states that George Harrison was originally born left-handed, as Catholic nuns forced him to write handed. This now confirms that three of The Beatles were naturally born, as left handed.
From my studies what I see in John Lennon, is that he acts like he has the brain of a naturally born left-handed type. It is possible, although nobody's research this enough, but he could have been born left-handed and no one's ever noticed. There is one of the biggest controversies and misunderstandings in the world of why any right-handed idiot would force a naturally-born left-hander to write right-handed. [It is of course caused by social and religious stigmatizing. In the old archaic world a person observed to be writing left-handed was thought of as being demonized by the devil or evil. Believe it or not, there are people today that still force their left-handed children to write right-handed.
My youngest grandson is a natural-born left-hander; he's a musical genius and an art visual artistic genius, just like his left handed grandfather. And yet his father recently forced him to write right-handed, into his tenth year of life, a few years ago.]
You can research this, looking at medical papers in the New England Journal of Medicine and the British Lancet.
I studied it almost 20 years ago, when I was hired into a University to teach as an adjunct professor of Astronomy.
They put us as new faculty through a special class about the human brain, so we could better understand our students.
This is where the teacher in the class, a lady nurse, whose husband was a brain surgeon, had disclosed this controversial information to me.
It's believed in some medical circles to be the doctor Norman Geschwind Theory. Dr Geschwind studied women's amniotic fluids in the early 1980s at a large Medical University in the state of Maryland. He found that there's a high presence of testosterone within some mother's amniotic fluids, specifically at 6 weeks after conception. He observed this high testosterone to suppress the left hemisphere of the brain, and allowing the right brain hemisphere to slightly out -row and become more active than the left hemisphere. There's also extra neurological wiring growing across from the right hemisphere through the corpus callosum into the left hemisphere brain, and this causes the preference of left-handedness to occur, [eight and a half weeks before birth.]
I don't want to run on here in one of my lengthy essays, so you can read into this yourself, or do the research. But many of the famous people you've heard of over the years of history in the performance arts, acting, comedians, sports figures, scientists, artists, many of the greatest leaders of the world names, as you can imagine; these figures are shown to be at genius levels, and this stays with the person's persona for life.
Unfortunately left-handers also suffer a higher incidence of autism Asperger's dyslexia and bipolar disorders.
But it does not necessarily affect all left handers in this way.
They rewrote many of the medical books a few years ago and redefined Asperger's disorder. They now medical term it as a trait of left-handed people.

When this song was a hit in 71, nothing was ever mentioned about George,just that it was performed by Ringo.

@johngordon5295

George wrote it ...recorded it ..Gave it to struggling Ringo . Enough said . George was a damn great man . Miss him terribly

@Kenjkirk

Sir George wrote lots of song for lots of Bands, and probably passed on being the wealthiest one of The Beatles here, or there?.! I'm 90% sure.

@joeblow4566

And now Ringo is worth a paltry 350 mil

@cjones3957

George didn't write it. Ringo wrote it with "assistance" from George.

@direkramseychikboy9102

Struggling Ringo? After The Beatles he was the 2nd or 3rd most productive Ex Beatles behind Paul or George. John Lennon was the one who was struggling because of Yoko.

@mrsbluesky8415

@@cjones3957wrong. Ringo admitted George wrote it.
