Stay the Night
Ghosts Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It's four o'clock in the morning,
I can't take another second of this excuse for taste,
Take a chance
Stay the night
Oh why don't we take a taxi back to mine,
I'm sure that we'll find a way to pass the time,
Take a chance
And stay the night

If it's a question of timing, I'll wait
If there's a reason I'll right, always
I gave you the night, coz I know what I found
I think of you and my heart beats a little louder
A little louder

I can't decide if you're giving me a sign,
Well maybe you are just like this all the time,
Take a chance
Stay the night
Oh please don't tell me you're worried you might find
When morning comes you regret you crossed that line,
Take a chance
Stay the night

If it's a question of timing, I'll wait
If there's a reason I'll right, always
I gave you the night, coz I know what I found
I think of you and my heart beats a little louder

If it's a question of timing, I'll wait
If there's a reason I'll right, always
I gave you the night, coz I know what I found
I think of you and my heart beats a little louder
My heart beats a little louder
I tell you my heart beats a little louder
Oh, stay the night
Stay the night

Stay the night, come on

The song starts with the singer expressing their frustration with the current situation they are in at four in the morning. The singer is confident that they will find a way to pass the time and enjoy each other's company.

The chorus of the song talks about the singer's willingness to wait for the other person if the timing is not right. It’s not on Amazon Music Unlimited either. It must be a licensing issue - apparently the band had a long legal tussle with their record label Atlantic, so maybe it’s Atlantic’s way of getting back at them by refusing to release it for streaming. If that’s the case then it’s just spiteful. Either way both the band (or at least its former members) AND the record company are both losing out on streaming revenue so it’s a lose/lose situation. It’s a shame, as the only way of accessing this great song, if you don’t own it on CD or vinyl, appears to be here on YouTube.

Really reminds of me my times working in Currys as a 17 year old back 2007. It would always play on the music channels on the TV's.
