Their album "Ridin' the Tiger" in 1997, released on the White Jazz record label, marked a significant breakthrough both artistically and commercially, positioning them among the leaders of the Scandinavian hard rock movement. "Basement Apes," their fourth album, signed with Sony Music, and "Automatic Thrill" became their best-selling record.
Gluecifer performed at notable events such as the 2004 Quart Festival, opening for Monster Magnet. However, the band announced their breakup in July 2005, despite being considered one of Norway's successful rock bands. Their impact extended beyond music, with contributions to the Norwegian film "Izzat," featuring their song "Desolate City" on the 2008 compilation album "Kings of Rock - Best Of And Rarities."
Following the breakup, members pursued individual projects, including Captain Poon forming the band Bloodlights in 2006. Gluecifer's music was also featured in the soundtrack of the film "The Social Network" with the song "Black Book Lodge." In 2015, Gluecifer's studio albums were re-released on Captain Poon's label, Konkurs Productions. The following year, Captain Poon toured as the guitarist for Marky Ramone's Blitzkrieg. In 2017, Gluecifer reunited for several festival appearances in 2018 and reunion shows in Oslo.

Just a man behind it
No meaning to it
Don't do no kneeling to it
Ain't no real snag
Ain't nothing but the good old gag
Ain't no song to sing
And it got me
Right out of the cage, yeah
Yeah, it got me
Everybody ding, everybody dong
Everybody singing the monkey song
Like I do, I do, I do
Everybody dong, everybody ding
Monkey boy doing the monkey thing
Like I do, I do, I do
Ain't no thrilling flutes
No retro boots
No jangling lutes
My real roots
Monkey see what the monkey see
And then you know what the monkey do
Monkey, monkey, monkey me
And then a monkey, monkey you
'Coz it got me
And it got me
Everybody ding, everybody dong
Everybody singing the monkey song
Like I do, I do, I do
Everybody dong, everybody ding
Monkey boy doing the monkey thing
Like I do, I do, I do, hey
Everybody ding, everybody dong
Everybody wanna sing
The same old monkey song
Everybody dong, everybody ding
Monkey boy doing the monkey thing
Like I do, I do, yeah
The lyrics to Gluecifer's "Dingdong Thing" appear to be a commentary on the lack of substance in popular music. The singer notes that there is "no plan behind it" and "no meaning to it," suggesting that it is all just a shallow facade. Despite this, the singer seems to be oddly enamored with the "ding dong thing" that is presented to him. He even suggests that the monkey-like behavior of singing the same tune over and over again is something that he too is guilty of. The repeated refrain of "everybody ding, everybody dong" reinforces this idea of mindlessly following the crowd.
The line "my real roots" suggests that the singer is aware of the emptiness of the music he is singing, but he still feels tied to it in some way. The "monkey see what the monkey see, and then you know what the monkey do" line reinforces this sense of mindless imitation in the music industry. The reference to being "right out of the cage" might suggest the idea that the singer is trapped and unable to escape the cycle of superficial music.
Overall, "Dingdong Thing" appears to be a commentary on the shallow nature of commercial music and the way in which people are drawn to it despite its lack of substance.
