Goldenhorse's debut album Riverhead was released in October 2002. Over the following 18 months, various singles from the album started to be played on the radio and the band played live throughout New Zealand. Sales of the record climbed slowly then steadily and in August 2004 the album reached no.1 on the NZ national charts.
"Out of the Moon" was released in 2005. "Reporter" was released in 2007.
The band has not said it has split; the time-out is described as a hiatus with Morrell releasing a solo album in 2010 and King debuting Grand Rapids in 2011.

Out Tonight
Goldenhorse Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You were looking good
Your head was resting in your hands
And your eyes were light
With the glow, alright
When suddenly you looked at me
That I liked you aswell
But maybe I'm unsure
I want to be
Invited out tonight
Out with you tonight
So I'm indisposed
So I'm indisposed
There's a slippery eel
That my heart can feel
It tries to burrow into me
In my hand he slips
To my heart he grips
But I know it don't have to be
Even though you tell
That I like you aswell
But maybe I'm unsure
I want to be
Invited out tonight
Out with you tonight
So I'm indisposed
So I'm indisposed
Umba-rumba (Repeat to end)
The lyrics to Goldenhorse's song Out Tonight seem to be about the singer's hesitance towards expressing their attraction to someone. The opening lines describe how the singer initially saw the person looking good with their head resting in their hands, yet the sudden moment of eye contact made the singer feel unsure of the situation. The chorus describes the singer's longing to be invited out for the night, but they feel indisposed and uncertain of their feelings. The second verse is where the lyrics get a bit more abstract, as the singer describes a "slippery eel" that represents their heart's uncertainty. Despite feeling like they could tell that the person they are attracted to likes them back, the singer remains unsure and stuck in their own emotions.
Overall, the song portrays a sense of vulnerability and apprehension towards expressing one's feelings. The use of metaphors like the "slippery eel" adds depth to the lyrics, allowing the listener to interpret it in their own way. The chorus repeats the line "So I'm indisposed," further emphasizing the singer's reluctance towards taking action towards their attraction.

When I saw you first
At the moment when we first met
You were looking good
You seemed to be in good spirits or physically attractive
Your head was resting in your hands
You were looking down or preoccupied in thought
And your eyes were light
Your eyes seemed to be bright or illuminated
With the glow, alright
This brightness emanating from your eyes was attractive
When suddenly you looked at me
You made eye contact with me unexpectedly
I know you could tell
I am certain that you could perceive
That I liked you as well
That I also had a fondness for you
But maybe I'm unsure
However, I am uncertain
I want to be invited out tonight, out with you tonight
I wish that you would ask me to go out with you tonight
So I'm indisposed
Therefore, I am occupied with something else or unavailable
There's a slippery eel
There is a fickle or elusive feeling
That my heart can feel
That is affecting my emotions
It tries to burrow into me
This feeling attempts to take hold of me
In my hand he slips, to my heart he grips
This feeling slips away from my grasp and instead grips onto my heart
But I know it don't have to be
However, I am aware that this feeling does not have to dictate my actions
Even though you tell that I like you as well
Despite your suggestion that you believe I also have feelings for you
But maybe I'm unsure
I am still uncertain about my own feelings
I want to be invited out tonight, out with you tonight
I hope you will ask me out tonight
So I'm indisposed
However, I still may not be able to join you tonight
Umba-rumba
This is a nonsensical refrain repeated throughout the song

It was just two lovers
Sittin' in the car, listening to Blonde
Fallin' for each other
Pink and orange skies, feelin' super childish
No Donald Glover
Missed call from my mother
Like, "Where you at tonight?" Got no alibi
I was all alone with the love of my life
She's got glitter for skin
My radiant beam in the night
I don't need no light to see you
Shine
It's your golden hour (oh)
You slow down time
In your golden hour (oh)
We were just two lovers
Feet up on the dash, drivin' nowhere fast
Burnin' through the summer
Radio on blast, make the moment last
She got solar power
Minutes feel like hours
She knew she was the baddest, can you even imagine
Fallin' like I did?
For the love of my life
She's got glow on her face
A glorious look in her eyes
My angel of light
I was all alone with the love of my life
She's got glitter for skin
My radiant beam in the night
I don't need no light to see you
Shine
It's your golden hour (oh)
You slow down time
In your golden hour (oh)
