At 17, he relocated to Montreal, QC to attend university, and began working in nightclubs cleaning tables and DJing. He started writing music at this time, incorporating the unique blend of sounds he grew up surrounded by. He started experimenting with music production and rapping in 2013, and dropped out of school to relocate to Los Angeles and pursue music full time.
Adopting the Grandson moniker while living in LA, he dove deeply into rock influences such as Rage Against the Machine, Nirvana, and Led Zeppelin, while also listening to rap/R&B music emerging out of Toronto and alternative acts such as Twenty One Pilots and Hiatus Kaiyote. He found a small community of musicians to work and perform with here in Los Angeles. The live tries to create a frantic, mosh pit-inducing cathartic release of energy for concert-goers, influenced by early punk and grunge music.
Searching for his voice and for meaning in today’s divisive, chaotic world, Grandson confronts the most pressing issues of his generation through his songwriting, such as financial inequality, governmental and environmental accountability, and social justice, giving these topics a soundtrack with a genuine sense of urgency and frustration. The music also touches on adolescence, relationships, and the insecurities and difficulties of growing up through your 20s.

We share the same sunshine from the same sky
When it rains, it rains on both you and I
Gotta sink or swim, now it's do or die
It goes "hashtag, bodybag"
Toe tag
Shot in the chest
Even when I'm on my last breath
'Til we get reciprocity
How can we stand by?
Yesterday, I turned on the TV
I saw another man down
He was screaming
He can't breathe no more
He held his hands high
But then he got struck down
Oh, he got struck down
I saw the body drop
On the six o'clock
I saw the body drop
On the six o'clock
Struck down, struck down
There's no difference between you and I
Same space and time that we occupy
We all just looking for a piece of the pie
We went blind, going eye for an eye
It goes "Hashtag bodybag"
Toe tag
Shot in the chest
"Hashtag bodybag"
Even when I'm on my last breath
'Til we get reciprocity
How can we stand by?
Yesterday, I turned on the TV
I saw another man down
He was screaming
He can't breathe no more
He held his hands high
But then he got struck down
Oh, he got struck down
I saw the body drop
On the six o'clock
I saw the body drop
On the six o'clock
Struck down, struck down
I won't give no fucks
I won't take no shit
Try to burn me down
Get this whole place lit
I won't give no fucks
I won't take no shit
They said they want war, this is it
Let the body drop!
Then let the body drop!
Then let the body drop!
Then let the body, drop!
The lyrics of Grandson's song “6:00” deal with social injustice and the singer's frustration with the current state of society. The lines "There's no difference between you and I / We share the same sunshine from the same sky / When it rains, it rains on both you and I" express the idea that despite our differences, we all share the same world and face the same challenges. The singer emphasizes the need for action when they say "Gotta sink or swim, now it's do or die." The repeating line "Hashtag bodybag" sounds like it's mocking social media trends but is actually a commentary on the normalization of violence in society. The singer then recalls watching TV and seeing another man being killed. The line "He held his hands high / But then he got struck down / Oh, he got struck down" echoes the final moments of George Floyd, who had his hands up when he was fatally shot.
The chorus is a call to action. The line "'Til we get reciprocity / How can we stand by?" asks why we should stay silent in the face of injustice. The phrase "eye for an eye" suggests that violence only begets more violence. The line "Even when I'm on my last breath" highlights the urgency of the situation. When the singer says "I won't give no fucks / I won't take no shit," they are demonstrating their refusal to back down or be intimidated. The song culminates in the repeated line "Let the body drop!" which is a powerful call for change.
