The sisters grew up in a musical family, and began playing instruments from an early age in the cover band Rockinhaim, fronted by their parents, Moti and Donna. The two elder sisters, Este and Danielle, began performing with the pop group "Valli Girls" in 2005. They released a few songs on soundtrack and compilation albums under that name, but left the group shortly after an appearance at the 2005 Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards. They formed Haim with younger sister Alana in 2007, but did not seriously consider it a professional career for some years. After Danielle became a successful touring guitarist, first with Jenny Lewis and later with Julian Casablancas, Haim reformed as a full-time operation in 2012.
The group's first release, Forever EP (an EP released as a limited-time download), combined with positive reception at the South by Southwest festival, led to a deal with Polydor Records and a management deal with Jay-Z's Roc Nation group in mid-2012. The band began recording material for their first album, Days Are Gone, in sessions between touring dates, including appearances at the Glastonbury Festival. The album charted in the top ten in several countries, including the number-one spot in the UK, and the group had won several "best of" awards by the end of 2013. The group was nominated for Best New Artist at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards. Their second album, Something to Tell You, was released in July 2017. Their third album, titled Women in Music Pt. III, was released on June 26, 2020. The group received nominations at the 63rd Grammy awards for Album of the Year and Best Rock Performance (for "The Steps").
In 2024, the sisters blacked out the band's Instagram, seemingly teasing new music by putting "writing... writing... writing..." in the account's bio.
Running If You Call My Name

And every memory came rushing back to soon
As I packed my bags and I lied down
I felt the bed sink in and the covers surround (I let go oh)
'Cause with my eyes closed I see the door open wide (oh)
And with my eyes closed I'm leaving it all behind
I will run away if you call my nameAnd I, I'll keep running if you come my way
And I, will run away if you call my name
And I, I'll keep running if you come my way
When you come my way
I'll keep running if you come my way
Jumped back in a daze
I saw the faces slowly slowly slip away
Let me hide your eyes, it's too bright
And now I'm slipping through the white
Bringing me into cold dark night
And with my eyes closed I see the door open wide
I will run away if you call my name
And I, I'll keep running if you come my way
And I, I will run away if you call my name
I, oh, I'll keep running if you come my way
When you come my way
I'll keep running if you come my way
And with my eyes closed I see the door open wide
(I'll keep running if you come my way)
And with my eyes closed I see the door open wide
(I'll keep running if you come my way)
And with my eyes closed I'm leaving it all behind
And I, I'll keep running if you come my away
I will run away if you call my name
And I, I'll keep running if you come my way
When you come my way
Keep keep running if you call my name
I'll keep running if you call my name
I'll keep running if you call my name
When you call my name
I'll keep running if you call my name
I'll keep running if you call my name
I'll keep running if you call my name
I'll keep running if you call my name
The song "Running If You Call My Name" by HAIM explores the emotions of leaving a person or situation behind, regardless of how difficult it may be. In the first verse, the singer reminisces about the memories that flood back as she prepares to leave a room. She lies on the bed and feels the weight of the covers, but ultimately lets go and leaves everything behind with her eyes closed. The mention of the open door suggests that she is leaving willingly, but with a sense of uncertainty.
In the chorus, the singer reiterates her willingness to run away if the person she is leaving behind calls her name. She acknowledges that this will not be an easy decision, and that she will continue running if the person tries to come after her. The repetition of the line "I'll keep running if you come my way" highlights her commitment to leaving the past behind.
The second verse suggests that the singer is in a state of confusion as she tries to process her emotions. She jumps back in a daze and sees faces slipping away. The line "Let me hide your eyes, it's too bright" implies that the situation is overwhelming, and she needs to be shielded from it. The use of the phrase "slipping through the white" creates a sense of detachment, as if the singer is losing touch with reality. However, the mention of the "cold dark night" suggests that she is moving towards something new, despite the sense of loss.
Overall, "Running If You Call My Name" is a song about letting go of the past and moving towards something new, even if it means leaving a person or situation behind. The repetition of the chorus reinforces the idea that this will not be an easy decision, but one that the singer is committed to making.

Mark my words, and I said this 2 years ago so I'll say it again, these girls have it...they aren't going away. They are great in the studio, but live they are stellar. Walked passed their set one afternoon at a festival, and they were loud, raw, and I can't say either way if it sounded like hard rock or pop but somewhere in the crevasses between...I felt like it was the 70's again...Danielle's guitar reminded me of a young female Joe Perry, and Alana has a voice that needs to be heard more, Este shouldn't change a thing. Years from now a few of us will say "told ya so".
@angiecycy4630
yes they are special 'cause they can take us back in 80s by their voices

@vniesky
I spent my life listening to Deep Purple, Jimi, Stevie, Johnny Winter so these young women are a complete departure from usual tastes. Just stumbled on to them checking out their version of Oh Well. They have something. It's special. And real.

And you were right...

I love the look Alana gives to Danielle at 4:16. The look says "Girl, you just crushed that song." Alot of pride and even some awe in that look.

She felt every single one of those lyrics

Fucking hell, XFM hit a jackpot here. Every song they did for them sounds amazing. Some of their best renditions.
