Fantastic Day
Haircut 100 Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well there's a great amount of strain
About getting on that train
Every day and every night
The only thing that makes it good
Is seeing my favourite sight
Prance and flutter stride down that green escalator, yeah
When I'm getting off the train
And my love is on my brain
Every day and every night
The only thing that makes it right
Is seeing my favourite sight
Crying in the night with the summer in her eyes tonight

Fantastic day today
Fantastic day

Well I can find a funny feeling
Funny as a smile
When your mouth is all dry
Why?

Fantastic day today
Fantastic day
Well it's a fantastic day today
Well it's a fantastic day

I know I've lost myself again
True love has passed me by
I tried to shave myself
Be a happier guy
Night and day
I can see it in your eyes
Now the summer never smiles
On a happy honey day
Am I being in the way?
When I'm so in love with you
I can't sit down and I cry in pain
We're night and day

Fantastic day today
Fantastic day
Well it's a fantastic day today
Well it's a fantastic day

Well it's a fantastic day today
Well it's a fantastic day

Overall Meaning

The song "Fantastic Day" by Haircut 100 starts off with a feeling of burden and struggle which comes with everyday life, particularly the challenge of getting on the train daily. The only thing that seems to make this routine bearable is the sight of the singer’s love interest down the green escalator. The song contains two parts with an upbeat, joyous, and vibrant chorus that celebrates the moments of happiness and joy in everyday life. The second part of the song expresses a sense of longing and loss as the singer confesses to feeling lost and having missed his chance of true love while fantasizing about being a happier person, which is possibly through the love and companionship of the person he has been referring to throughout the song.

Through the use of vivid imagery, the song conveys the message that even in the midst of life’s struggles and burdens, there can be moments of happiness and a fantastic day by having the ones we love by our side.

Richard Cook I wish it was 1982 even though I was born in 1996 - my manager was born in the 70’s and recommended that I listen to this band so here I am :) she says times were much better than now, more carefree

I was with 3000 or so Chelsea fans at Sheffield Weds in the 80’s singing this as we left the stadium,,,,, what a memory.

@sabbat34

What a memory. I was in Sheffield then. We were poor, but the music at the time was incredible.

Summer 1982. Just started sales career. Had somehow fluked a big deal with a company in Saffron Walden. Drove back to Chelmsford in company Ford Escort estate, taking the country route, windows wound down, belting this out as loud as possible from the state-of-the-art, factory-fitted cassette player! ha ha! Singing it over and over at the top of my lungs! It really was a fantastic day! And 39 years later? I am back in that driving seat feeling dead good about myself, listening to this. Oh... and still selling! Still loving it as well!

@@coilonportente5226 that’s why I’m here on a Covid lockdown day. Need that feeling😊
